Staking Metroamp split turrets

Post by mikeokc » Sun Feb 19, 2006 12:53 pm

My hands are a bloody mess...cuts, scrapes, blisters....I didn't know fabricating PTP boards was an excersize in self mutilation. What tool is best to use for the metroamp split turrets? The 1/8" nut driver looked like a no brainer but after snapping a dollar or two worth of posts...I had to start drilling the holes slightly larger than 3/32" and not leaning so hard on the darn thing. Surely there is a "seating" tool that is less labor and body fluid intensive!
Where are we going and why are we in this basket?????

I've got the same tore up knuckles....

I drill a 2.6mm hole and press them in with the hollow part of a staking tool I picked up somewhere. Sorry I don't remember where, but it's not the typical Mouser one. I've bought 3 or 4 of those thinking it was, but it's not.

To stake them, try a 2.8 or 2.9mm bit. That will let you put them in and sort of hold them until you can stake the bottom.

Three nuts, a sharpened piece of all-thread, and some type of plunger...no problem. ;)
Why is it we can remember where all the wires go, but can never find a pick?

Looks like you have to drill the end of one too.
Never settle for an amp thats smaller then you are.

I once made a board with that Hoffman tool. It works great, but you need a drill press to mount it into. Home depot had one for $30 that converts a handheld drill into a press. Worked like a charm. For $5 it's worth it.
