edumacation request:
"heritage speaker" - is that the G12H? and does anyone here have actual vintage G12Ms that we could hear a clip of to get a comparison between reissues and the real thing?
whenever i hear the word "reissue" i get queezy thinking about marshall's "plexi-reissues" - uh yeah! i played a couple tracks through a plexi-reissue in the studio and it is what lead me to find george's site, this board, and a whole new world of solder sniffing fun... thanks Marshall! we had a george metro point to point board and a MM OT in that "reissue" quicker than you can say gimme some frickin' tone man!

I actually don't have any problems with the RI greenbacks. I'd still like to try the Heritage though. Both clips sound really good.
Gear:
'74 Super Lead rebuilt with '68 metro board and old stock mustards.
'73 Super Lead
'68 Basketweave with pre rola G12Ms
'70 Basketweave

RI Greenbacks sound pretty good to my ears - the blackbacks are a bit better but nowhere near as much to warrant calling the reissue G12M's "shit".

IMO the RI greenbacks sound about "right" for a greenback. The differnce is in the highend which is much more pronounced in the RIs (this may be a great thing if that's what you're after). This may be due to the fact that they are new and not properly broken in. Give them 10 years and they may sound just as good as any old speaker!

I thought that - listen to Ralle's reissue G12M's - he's had them well over 10 years and they sound really great.

i hear a difference in mids as well if you listen to both speakers clips with nothing done.to me me the heritage is warmer with more of a low mid and the reis is brighter with more upper mids.thats just my opinion.almost sounds like they based the reis speaker off of the later rola speakers and the heritage off of the pre rola.

I agree - the reissues are very close to my Rola G12M's - much closer than they are to pre-rola's.

I used a 4 to 5 year old 1960ax with g12m reissues in my sound clips. If I understand what you guys are saying, would you consider them pretty close to Black Back g12m.
What about the Chineese g12m,do they sound like the English made g12m Reissues?

A friend of mine and I who plays EVH much better then I do tested four 4x12 cabs last night. One pre-rola Greenback, one Blackback, one pre-rola H cab and one Scumbag cab. and we concluded that each one sounded great with a different song.

That's what I noticed too. My blackback 55hz G12H30 cab is better for Fair Warning / Meanstreets type tone. My pulsonic Greenback cab is better for VH1/VHII ... and my blackback 55hz G12M cab falls somewhere in between. My straight up '73 Superlead definitely does VHII better than my '68 spec'd '74 Superlead.
Bottome line is you need a multi amp/cab setup! More Marshalls!!
