Schecter = Value?

OK, so I'm just a little freaked out. I really don't want to like Schecter -- dunno why, just a weird brand issue for me I guess. Maybe it goes back to 20 years ago, when a bandmate had one of their strat-y things. Maybe I have price point snobbery issues -- I don't know.

But I've been checking out their C1 series, especially the Elite and the Plus, and they seem like pretty dang good guitars for the money. They have neck-through designs, but without that look that yells, "Hey everybody, I'm a neck-through guitar!! See? You can see the neck actually go right THROUGH me!"

Some have coil-tapping with Duncan Designed pickups (the Blackjack has genuine Duncan JB and '59 pickups). TonePros bridges come standard on some models. The frets are gigantic, the finishes are great and they weigh next to nothing. (OK, sometimes they can go overboard with the inlays, but hey -- they are made in Korea after all...) To top it all off, they are set up here in the USA and have street prices between $500 and $700 US.

So what am I missing here? Who among us plays these things and how do you like them? Do you dig the tones, the feel, the quality? Or not?

i think if it feels good in your hands and enables to express the way you want to freely it doesnt matter if its box with strings on it. ;)

I have a close friend who is buying his daughter (she rips) a Schecter for a graduation present. I think it was around $600. With top notch parts, as you mentioned. Seems like a great deal.

He said she played it at the store and her face lit up. Can't say the same for guitars costing three times as much.

I agree, Mark.

Back in the day when I first went on the road I wanted one guitar that did everything. I didn't want to switch guitars on stage, not to mention haul around a bunch of guitars for three months. I bought an Ibanez. A pink one at that. I took so much shit from my band for that it was unreal. But it does everything I want it to do and has NEVER broke down in 20+ years.

My point is that when you buy a guitar you should do it with your ears and your hands, not your eyes.
I've noticed the Schectors too. I think they're great. They sound good and play nice. I'd pick one up but they don't have a Floyd Rose. I gotta have my Floyd 8) .
Never settle for an amp thats smaller then you are.

I almost bought a Schecter in Maui a few years back. It was a great player, looked stellar, and at a great price too, but I finally decided I didn't want to deal with getting it on the flight back home and passed. Too bad.

I got a 'Tempest Blackjack' a little while back and am still really digging it.....

With that being said there were some other model Schecters in the store and from what I could tell.....
not all Schecters are created equal!!!!!

Schecters are largely made by Samick, and I've found the former statement to be true of the Samick guitars as well (Greg Bennett models, not the old crappy ones).......

Definitely try a few before you buy, because there are some real gems to be had there!!!!!
Let's get going, 'cause there's too much music, too little time!!!!
