Apart from the obvious amp electronics, such a simple thing as speaker, cab, wood, hands, strings, pic attack, will tip the balance in any direction. Hell, my amp got into VH-land with a 2" tranny! Certainly not what I expected anyway, so there's gotta be more to this puzzle than just output iron.bmf5150 wrote:my ranking would be
1-original selflead dagnal
2-sozo protoype opt
3-mercury magnetic selflead
4-******
5-heyboer
its all a matter of opinion.i have owned the mercury magnetics, heyboer,******,and original dagnal.the trannny that sounds closest to my original dagnal is the sozo protoype.
Are you refering to #5 as Georges Clone or the one designed by Heyboer?bmf5150 wrote:my ranking would be

Thanks, the regular heyboer!this is just my opinion, try them for your self and see what you like!i think when john from sozo caps finally puts his trannys out, they will be the next huge thing!Guitar Adjuster wrote:Are you refering to #5 as Georges Clone or the one designed by Heyboer?bmf5150 wrote:my ranking would be

yeah,it was recorded with a master volume mod at low volume.that may be what your hearing,im not sure.having a litttle baby in the house the attenutaor is just to loud.yeah,i loved the ****** tranny till i started trying other tranny.my amp now has an original dagnal self lead opt,the merc is long gone.one thing about those heritage, there woody sounding!Star*Guitar wrote:You know Stan..yours sound real close...but sounds too open somehow...your losing the compression that was evident in early versions of amps you modded or put together...Somehow you are not as close as you once were. It sounds more like my Peacemaker and Scorpion so I am betting it is the MM trannies...my personal experience is.. I would never consider them great EVH amps. They get you in the ballpark, sounds kinda like....but that's it...Great amps...I love them...but not nailing that tone.
I am going in circle hear so bear with me..Mark's Plexi with MM self leads sounds great though...he found the right mix of compants to add the right amount of drive and compression. So much so..I found a deal on one and picked up a used one from John Sozo.
Mikes clips have that compression. They sound closer to me..So ****** is closer out of the box in my view.
Stan I remember you buying Cerrems trannies and selling me on buying them. I bought a real custom one from ****** for a 50 watter...I wanted it to sound like a 100 wat Plexi and not lose that 100 watt drive.....****** said he could do it...
Believe it or not I put it in my Scorpion but it was way dark..so much so I couldn't brighten it up enough.
However I will say ****** told me what componants to mod inside the Scorpion to open it up.. but I didn't want to do all that soldering inside a 2500 dollar amp..LOL...So I took it out...
I am going to build a 50 watter someday and Cerrems tranny is going in it...then I can mod like Crazy...Now I am sure it will get me there....
