So, I'm a big SRV fan, and I'd love to buld myself a Vibroverb. I already have a nice, old 15"JBL from the late 70s, but it's only a 25 watt/16 ohm unit, so I"m looking to use a dual 6V6 power section. Sort of like a Vibro preamp on a Deluxe Reverb power amp.
Except that it would appear that that IS a Deluxe Reverb. Or so it would seem.
Just how many amps used this AA/AB 763 design? DR? Vibroverb? Any others? Supers? Twins?

Most of the Fender lineup had a 7/63 revision. And most are pretty similar.
I'd rethink the concept of two-6V6's for SRV tone though. They just aren't going to stay big and clean. To my ears they compare favorably as a low-wattage, more British sounding American tube. And they may go with that JBL in a fantastic way, I just don't think in an SRV way......

Well, I've pretty much set my mid to do this. It doesn't matter too much if it doesn't sound SRV, oh, well, I'll either dig it or share it with someone who does. I am honestly having a hard time imaging it sounding bad with a strat, assuming I can get it put together right.
And I'm not interested in being an SRV clone, but it would be nice if I can cop the tone once in a while.

I guess it boils down to copping the whole SRV-Strat-big-honkin'-15"-speaker-equipped-Fender-VIBE more than actual tone.
It's kinda like guitar tab...sometimes I need help finding the first few notes, but then I'm gonna play what I wanna play anyway, damn the torpedos, full schpeed ahead.
Thank you for your support.

You might take a look at the AX84.com projects called the October and November amps. The October has a Marshall front end and 6V6 output, and the November is more Fenderish with 6V6 outs as well.marshman wrote:So, I'm a big SRV fan, and I'd love to buld myself a Vibroverb.
