In general, no, an Alnico II PAF is not a good heavy metal pickup. You need something with more windings and/or a stronger magnet.

Really?

Slash seems to do pretty well...

Doesn't he use Alnico Pro II Humbuckers?

Perhaps it depends on how heavy your metal is.

both 2 and 3 are way sweeter and not as edging as alnico 5 which is what came in the darkburst.
Both clips are very nice, however the one with alnico2 is a bit nicer :o

But still another clip with the stock alnico5 wouldn't be bad, just to compare all

The fault almost always is sitting in front of the amp

I was thinking a bit heavier than G 'N R. I don't consider Slash's sound heavy metal.

Slash is more of a Rock/Blues sound. Take your Les Paul and tune it to drop C and the Alinco II will most likely sound like mush. At least it did for me. Alnico 5 or ceramic work better for the heavy stuff IMO.

Bjorn----I have another Genesis pickup in alnico 5, Genesis "hot" its the same as the Mr. Browney but in alnico 5 instead of alnico 2 puts out about the same 9 ish or so. When I pull it out of my "V" I will let you try that out. That would be a good A/B test since they are basically identical with the exception of the magnets.

Sounds great Allen. Let me know when you do. Until then if you don't mind I would like to learn this pickup a bit more. If not then that is cool.

Necro, didn't you used to post on the Nuendo forums? I thought I recognized it from over there from a year or so ago.

I think I may have asked one or two questions there once, but it was longer than 2 years ago. It was around the time of Nuendo 1.5 and I did not like the uber-snobbery of the board when asking simple questions that the answers could not be found in the manuals. Don't think its too cool to tell someone that they should not have bought a piece of software if they did not already know how to use it  .
