opinions on this tone please!

This is my first attempt ever on the VH-tone. What I did was plugging directly into my RI (at my normal settings)which went into hotplate at -4 into 2 cabs. I used my straight checkered and my '70 slant bass BW. The slant BW was miked right at the speaker cloth and the straight was miked from 3ft away. The slant BW is to the left and the straight is to the right in the mix. I used 2 sm57s for the recording, and my duesenberg V for the playing!

Oh, I forgot - I recorded and mixed this on my ZOOM MRS 1266.

sounds great - i mean listening closely to just the tone of the amp and not the way it was recorded. it needs alot of 80hz and below removed but that could be mic placement/mics used- but the tone of the amp rocks!;)

It could be the mic that's 3ft away - the lower the frequency of the sound wave, the longer it takes to develop. Have a go at using 1 mic off axis (45 degrees) 1-3 inches away, that's my usual SM57 mic position so I'd be interested to hear how your amp sounds with it.

Bainzy, that's what I did with the mic that went to the BW cab(left channel). Maby it's just the other mic (right channel) that is too loud in the mix?

possibly - it seems to add depth and power to the sound but it also makes it a bit distant sounding too. any chance you could cut another mix with just that channel?

sm57 pointed straight on - adjusted while i listen to it in head phones. i listen for the best balance between the high end of center of the cone to the bassy side of the paper. ends up being slightly off center. straight on off center of the dust cover.

No recent clips? BTY--I got the teflon wire in, sweet, I tried to melt it with my soldering iron---no way, got so hot I had to hold it with my needle nose and it still did not melt.

more clips to come. i have had some stuff on my plate. but you know ill have more clips;)

i want some of that wire for sure - and the speaker box!

Masterkeeper,

That sounds real good! It sounds like that amp could use more compression or something. Maybe just some compression in the recording would do it. I don't know ... it doesn't sound exactly like VH, but sounds real real good.

Maby it's because the amp has the 2" ****** instead of a 1.5" opt.
