It would also be cool if you could add a clip with no variacs, then one on the head, and finally one between the head n cab to really highlight the impact of the variacs compared to a straight set up.

I could just climb inside that tone and ride it all the way home, great choice of songs too. The question is, now that THE TONE has been produced here, where are you going to find enough goo to hide this set up from prying eyes!?!? Maybe you could just dip the whole rig in a large vat of black silicone, not pretty but effective. :) That's what we are all about here, the sneaky, tricksy, falls little hobbetses that we are.

Yeah, or maybe a big giant hut out of plywood, with casters and a big canvas and zipper to uncover the grille cloth when it's time to play. What I really like about this effect is the fuzzy crackle sound. I read somewhere, a long time ago, that Ed described it as the sound that happens when you turn off the amp while still playing as the amp powers down. It gets hairy sounding. I think the first variac does that starved voltage thing and warms it up and changes compression. The 2nd variac exaggerates this effect and the WACF tone is what I hear most in this effect.

guitar007, probably won't do a clip without a variac but all the clips I've posted over the years were with one variac. Only these latest two, have been 2 variacs.

This is exactly what excited me when I heard your first clips, it's something I don't hear with regular 12series builds possibly with the exception of Ralles set up albeit a tad tonally different, I always thought it was something with his cab that added that sizzle?

Thanks James for the experiments and answering the Q's 8)

Actually, I think James has a hidden pickup inside the second variac all hidden inside a third varaic a la a turducken so to speak. :D

Best tone on the planet? I don't know about that, given present company of course, but that is one awesome compliment. Thank you.

Actually not sure what gauge the speaker wire is but probably 16 gauge.

Alia-Seltzer effect. Good one. That's what I'll use from now on.

That pic is so porn.

BTW, me thinks the 6 band pushes out some of Alka-Seltzer effect. Just a little push is all I had going. I'm trying post a pic of the EQ but a message tells me the board quota has been reached, or something like that.

The board quota just means you used up all your allocated space. You have two choices to fix that. 1. Erase some of your previously posted pics or ..2. Post a url to pics you posted on another hosting site like Photobucket.

Interesting, That is almost a flat profile. I expected more of a boost on the low end on the MXR when you said you used it to thump things up a bit.
