Hey guys,
just acquired a Suhr Reactive Load Box and recorded a short clip with it. Amp is a Marshall 1959 HW with Dave Friedman specs, I have used a Les Paul with Bareknuckle Mules and an alder Strat with one piece maple neck and a Bareknuckle VHII for this clip.
All controls on 10, Vol I on 8, Vol II off.
Also tried a slave setup with the Suhr Load Box and a 1971 Super Lead, sounds stellar.

Re: Clip with Suhr Reactive Load
wow! i love that!
please list the components from guitar to speakers...
people talk about how you can't get the TONE without this or that - dude - this is it for me. so many examples on this site achieving the elements of THE TONE that make VH I what it is. seems that the ONE component that is always there is that 1959 design.
listen to how beautiful the envelope is on ATTACK. awesome. and the bottom is FULL but not STUFFED and CLOSED OFF - it is open and organic. [pinky extended]

Re: Clip with Suhr Reactive Load
Thanks ! Here is the signal chain:
Gibson Les Paul R8 w/ BKP Mules and everything after Feel Your Love is the alder strat with maple neck, vintage tremolo and BKP VHII pickup. These go into the EP-Pre, the EHX Memory Toy (delay time around 280ms, used it only for the ATBL riffs) and a MXR Script Phase 90 (not used in the clip) and then out into the amp. Preamp tubes are JJs in V2 and V3 and a Hoges in V1. The Hoges is a relabeled Telefunken Smooth Plate I think (there are no real information about them), at least they look the same and sound great. Power Tubes are JJ EL34L's. I had to replace the output transformer of the amp because the original Marshall OT blew up... I installed a TAD OT because that are one of the few transformer brands that are easy to get in Germany... I ordered a Metro-spec Heyboer this week, corious to see what that will do to the tone.
The Suhr Reactive Load is now connected to the speaker jack of the amp at 8 ohms. The signal of the load box goes into my audio interface. I used impulse responses of a Marshall 1960 loaded with Pre-Rola Greenbacks and miced with a SM57 and placed a little bit of Reverb at the right side.
Pete Thorn has a great video on his YouTube channel where he explains recording with impulse responses. I think it is a real good way to record, you have many different cabs, mics and speakers at hand and you can achieve a good sound easier and without much hassle.

Re: Clip with Suhr Reactive Load
Great! Thanks for the info. I am surprised that it was a direct signal - no cab. I didn't realize that as I listened so I had a chance to not pre-judge. I did notice that there were highs in there that seemed a little pronounced - my honest reaction to that was I assumed that the highs were a matter of mic placement and would be rolled off in a final mix. The pleasure of listening to it is that envelope on attack. Very expressive.

Does sound good man. Almost like the front is being hit with an EQ rather than an EP3 pre.
