Sounds really cool! Maybe a clip without the second variac to hear the diffrence from a phone recording?

Just give it a try. Two exact EVH pristine ohmite variacs just sold on eBay for under $150, what's wrong with you people!

Agreed. A/B clips are in order.

JNEW and I saw those 2 prong Ohmite VT-8s from the
college since yesterday , but I already have 2 Tenma 10a and a 3 prong Ohmite VT -10.

So I bought these instead

Let us know how they compare to the EH6CA7s.

I've never tried the EH6CA7, but JNEW has both, and said there was no difference. It's just rare a matched quad of these show up.

StarGuitars 68 plexi has those original Sylvania 6CA7's, and so far the difference between those and the EH's is that you can drop the variac down to 60v and the tone does not get anemic like it does with the EH's. It's a pretty big part of the puzzle that's for sure.

My amp will get anemic at 60VAC w/original Sylvania's. :what:

It will be interesting to see how my 68s will react, and begs the question why you guys have different results.
It has me wondering if it is:

100 watt verses 50 watt?

Old Iron built for 110v verses new built for 120v so JNEW'S amp is operating further (60v) from spec?

Dagnall verses Radio Spares designed for KT66 originally?

Plate voltage differences?

All good points but I think biasing plays the key role in this. 8)

I thought you both were biasing 70% at 110v, then droping down to 90v or lower. That's what I'm doing for now until I can crossover notch method later.

What happens if you dime everything. Why can some people crank the bass and presence but some cant?

tubby bass when cranking the bass to 10 - can sometimes vary from guitar to guitar for me - depending on the setup - i get that in a single variac setup.

I do, yes. I don't know how Phil is doing his.

Mr.Farva, it's an interesting thing about some amps being able to run flat out. My amp does everything on 10 except VOL I. 5 is all I go on that knob.
