Ed's Amp Line Out - Question for Dave F.

Post by white noise » Sat Jul 04, 2015 7:41 pm

Dave,

I read an article this weekend about the line out that you did on Ed's amp and I wanted to see if you could share a little about it, a diagram, explanation of how you wired it or anything you feel to share about it.

I am sure a few of us would be very interested!

Pretty standard. 1.5k resistor in series,a 470ohm to ground, then a 10ka pot wired like a volume and out. There you go.

Thank you Dave!

Does this look right?

If not and someone would like to correct it, here is a blank components image:

I understood it's just a 1k5/470r voltage divider with a 10ka pot right after. Am I right?

No you had it right the first time. 470 ohm from input lug to ground.

Dave,

Did you put this line out on many of Ed's amps or just one or a few?
Do you recall when he started using this line out on his amp?

Thank you for sharing what you have!

The right one... :

I've built and used this and it works great. In fact, I gave it to Jeremy and I think he still uses it for his re-amp setup. 8)

Jimi,

Yes, that is Mark's LO Box-

Seems like it would be better to use a Audio Taper Pot instead of the Linear Taper Pot, for a more even sweep of the signal, but i guess Mark preferred the Linear Taper.

Seems there would be more signal flow going through Mark's vs Dave's.

Maybe Dave can give us the Pros or Cons to using the 1.5K resistor & 10K Pot Verses Mark's 2.2K resistor, 5K Pot and the 100 Ohms resistor.

Just to be clear... this is not Mark's line out... as best I can tell this was Egnater's, first published here by SAH5150:

See his detailed 1,2,3,etc post abit of the way down the page that first described it. Above this post you can see the lineouts that Mark was using prior to seeing this one. Once Mark started using it, it some how became "his".

Here is sah5150 kind of laughing about the whole thing!

In my understanding there's actually no such thing. Voltage dividers lower impedance and reduces the Vout. see here http://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator ... ivider.htm

It's a matter of how much impedance the input stage of the reamping/recording device that you're going to use after the line our can handle. Than you calculate the divider acordingly. Pros and Cons will depend on how you're going to use the line out.

Am I right?
