100 watt 1986 marshall bass head
Greetings everyone.
I am getting ready to pull the trigger on another amp build. I built a 67 plexi running 6550s last year as my first build. I ran into some problems, but eventually figured them out.....and yes,,,,,she screams!
For my next project, I am going to try something a little different. I like the tone of the 1986 marshall bass amp favored by D. Allman; however, I need more headroom so I would like to build it as a 100 watt. The overdrive from the 1986 model seems so much thicker and "softer" than the 100 watt. From what I know, the preamp is the same as a marshall super bass 100watt, but there are some changes in the power section such as filtering.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to convert the 1986 to a 100 watt? I WILL be ordering a ceriatone kit if that helps out.
All the best,
Brandon

Build a Model 1992 Superbass but go with 100uF mains filtering (i.e. use x2 100+100 cans for mains)

I thought that going to higher filtering the amp would be more stiffer?

That is the only difference between 1992 and 1987 (apart from 2 vs 4 tubes) and you asked about different filtering.bmcash wrote:I thought that going to higher filtering the amp would be more stiffer?

Sorry, but I still dont understand. If I look at the layout of a 50 watt I see 50 uf cans. Am I missing some type of series vs parallel?

Aaahhhhhh...i see the light now. corrr t if I am wrong. 50 +50 in parallel is 100uf total for the 50 watt. To match that, i will need two 100/100 uf can...in parallel and series.
