Metro/Friedman plexi & Scumback 68' plexi replica
https://soundcloud.com/eljodon/scumbackjam
This is a recording I did in my studio using a Metro Plexi 68" 12,000 series modified by Dave Friedman to sound like the Metro/Friedman amp with no master volume with a built in Variac set at 95 volts and a custom built Scumback Plexi 68'/69' plexi replica with a Variac set at 90 on the dirty parts and 120 on the clean parts .I used the Scumback for all the rhythms and main lead break and the Metro/Friedman which I got later during the recording which was used an all the rest of the leads.I used a custom made Marshall style cab built buy Scumback speakers cab with 69' spec. The cab is loaded with 2 Scumback BH75 and 2 M75.The amps were both set with everything on 10 and non of the amps have a master volume. I used mainly a Fender Strat with a custom made Warmoth neck with single coil pick ups and for the 2nd part of the main solo, I used a Warmoth Start that I put together with a chambered body and a scalloped maple neck with a PRS 59/09 pickup on the neck and a WCR Darkburst on the neck.

Thank George! I'm the guy(George Alayon) that you helped getting my Metro Plexi to sound the way I wanted. Since I live in Ca you set me up with Dave Friedman to work on my amp. I made the mistake of getting a fx loop and a master volume on the amp, so he ripped all that stuff up made it like the Metro/Friedman like the one that you both worked on and changed the power tubes to 6CA7. Now I'm very happy with the amp! I also installed a NOS Bugle Boy on V1 and a NOS Mullard on V2 and the amp sounds incredible! You sir are I true gentleman!

I thought that was you George! Ripping as usual.
I'm glad you got the amp where you wanted it to be. It takes a couple tired sometimes to really nail what someone is looking for. We can talk about it all day, but it's very subjective.
Hope your back is holding up.

Lol! I'm really happy with the amp sir, I've been using it quite a bit along with Jim's Plexi too! The Metro gives me a close VH tone and straight Rock tone and Jim's Plexi I use for blues style tone. I haven't used my other amps as much, but I'm happy to have a bunch of amps that sound quiet different from each other!
My back is much better, but my left hand is not doing that well! I had to switch to a lighter gauge so I can play through a whole track with out my hand crapping out!It kind of sucks!
I'm doing some VH stuff comparing slave and none slave tone. I posted Romeo Delight which I did ok, but my ears were burnt out when I mixed so I under mixed the guitar and over compressed mix, but if you get the chance, check it out and see what you think. I'm doing 2 more kind of fast with just a couple of takes, but is just for fun and to see what advice I can get from my fellow VH freaks! LOL! Take care and thank you very much George, you're one of a kind!!!!

Wow! I just got a listen to this again! I know this is old , but if your still around. What was your signal chain? Buffer.?. Boost? Tube screamer? Or straight in the amp?

Re: Metro/Friedman plexi & Scumback 68' plexi replica
Thanks!I just notice that you posted this awhile ago! Sorry, I didn't see it. I used different signal chains since there are many different tones. With the Metro/Friedman 68' I usually use a Boss GE100 10 band eq with the usual frown face eq curve with a mild boost and an OCD with the volume all the way up and the drive all the way down for leads or rhythms. I'm using a Fryette Power Station attenuator with both amps but with the Metro/Friedman I'm using it's own variac at 90 volts with everything on 10. I'm also using a Scumback Plexi 68/69 with the same pedals but without a variac. The Strat lead & Rhythm was the Scumback Plexi straight with no pedals. With the rock solos, I'm using the Metro/Friedman except for the last main solo which is the Scumback Plexi. Some of the dirty rhythms are both amps left & right. I also use the Maxon 808 for the more distorted solos.Natec wrote:Wow! I just got a listen to this again!
