I agree with you TS, the 78 is really edging out a lot of other pu's for the VH I tone as long as it is with a higher gain plexi
which definitely eddie had.
with the more gain than typical in ed's 12301 and the ep3's, possible use of a eq (even though it is not needed)
the duncan 78 definitely has the tone,dynamic of VH I.
I just bought another i love them so much. even if you use the 78 in a non VH guitar it has "that tone"
I put one on my LP and love it to death! :rock:

I tell ya man, this is a bad mofo of a pu. It lets the GUITAR sound like itself (sort of how it sounds unplugged in a way).NO excessive push or overly exagerated eq, etc. It can take MORE gain,if needed, WITHOUT mushing out. Put it in a good strat with a vintage Fender style bridge and regardless of the amp, you get a tone reminiscent of Ed's in that '77/'78 era (love the boots.....just pure unadulterated TONE (and playing) ) !
