The amp Kills, yes, it killed my ear. What a trebly sound! and that noise on the beginning...

I think it sounds killer too! Maybe a little bright though.... It's got that "I just put new strings on" kinda sound to it. :)

It sounds like a cascade, does he ever get around to saying what the "mod" was? I like the sound of the pickup, though the low E and unwound strings don't quite sound right, but I hear that ITO character when he upstrokes that C chord in the riff.

DF spec according to his post...

I actually like this clip for the hair it has but I think the thin sound is due to the recording imo

I agree with carbia on this. That doesn't sound like any DF spec i've had and not like my original '74 either. Sounds very rockstah mod 5ish and to my ears sounds nothing like VH. Way too much preamp distotion (and not even the right kind of preamp distortion), and an overall squeaky sound. Never anywhere not in demos, live studio , nowhere did ed have any squeek in his tone. Just goes to show you we all hear a bit differently. What it does sound like is a cascaded '74 spec with the 100k/4 ohm tap feedback spec. And not a great representaion of even that spec imo.
