If you are planning to use it as a cathode bypass cap like in a Marshall circuit you will be fine. There isn't alot of voltage there on the cathode.

most kool !
thanks for the leg work on that.
Yes... I see that the Mustard's are 160v and I was curious if the higher voltage rating had an effect.
As long as it's 160v or more seems to be A.O.K.

These would be for a frankenbuild and just wanted to know if these could be used in a pinch; and I see if it meets the ratings it should work just fine....danman wrote:If you are planning to use it as a cathode bypass cap like in a Marshall circuit you will be fine. Found these a while back if you're interested, I've dealt with the seller several times. Not the cheapest caps but proven to sound great:

Out of interest... can a 120v .68 mustard be used as a cathode bypass cap or does it need to be 160v min?

It'll be fine - no voltage to mention on the preamp cathodesSkippy wrote:Out of interest... can a 120v .68 mustard be used as a cathode bypass cap or does it need to be 160v min?

Yes, the cathode voltage there is around 1 or 2 volts. Every cap can be used

As for the 600V, whilst it will be fine, the higher voltage rating may make a very appreciable difference in that position. A 600V cap will have a massively higher Equivalent Series Resistance over a 160V cap, which will almost certainly make an appreciable difference on this particular cathode where only a few volts are present, in operation at least. Whether or not it is for the better or worse is all personal preference though. The difference in ESR however may not even be particularly perceivable to the ear, as cathode cap types seem to have a far lesser effect than the couplers.
So I like purple, okay!!!!!!

Caps that worth spending money on are: 22nf in the Pre and Pi sections; 100nf that connected to the grid of the PI tube from the Negative Feedback. Others can be any thing you want, but with good tolerance and long life => less electrolytics as you can.

Very true. Great point.
