Yep, a .0022 polypro  . I'm sure Mark must have picked the idea for that from the pics of Ed's 12xxx. Ed's had the previous version Xicon to that (it was exact size except blue).Same construction and value though. I've messed around ALOT with that plate cap value and construction type. That particular .0022 polypropylene Xicon cap sounds best there to me. Whether a.0022 mustard was there originally or not, the Xicon sounds best there to me.

Sean, I'm not sure about who sells the parts your gonna need for the combo build, but you want the combo version of the Marshall '2204' head. Garbeaj has a 2x12 jcm 800 50 watter that Mark modded. He can give you the model name. Check Valvestorm for parts or maybe even Ceriatone or Mojotone. You might be better off purchasing a used jcm800 combo though. The 'Mod5' itself will be the easiest aspect of this build.

Oh awesome! And haha I imagine so! I'll keep that version in mind for that position. And I'll be probably building it either with the chassis facing up like a 2204 head (so kind of like a 2x12 2204-style Suhr badger construction), or taking your idea of modding a pre-existing JCM800 2x12 combo and modding it (but on top of that I'll be definitely fabricating some internal baffling and giving it a fully closed back panel for that true 2x12 cab sound) And yea I've been doing a lot of research and have found out just how easy the mod5 is to do to a pre-existing 800 :dlr:. P.S. in your opinion (or anyone else who might weigh in on this)...if I'm getting a Tungsol 12ax7 and 2 EH 12ax7's, what do you guys recommend I put in the v1, v2, and v3 positions? Or should I just mess around with it?

Just mess around with the preamp tubes. In addition to what you already have, get a JJ , Mullard reissue, maybe a old Sylvania, or anything else you can get your hands on. In general, noise is about the biggest consideration when choosing a v1 tube. You want a hi gain 12ax7 that is low noise. Mark used several types (tung-sol, Eh, etc) as does Bray.
