New Amp Specs with clips
Well, not totally new. I took out the PPIMV and put in a 47k for the NFB on the 16 ohm (actually on the speaker tap with the selector at 16 ohms).

Re: New Amp Specs with clips
I'd have to agree although I'm done with 2203/4 front ends and ppimv's.

Re: New Amp Specs with clips
The new clips are much better. I'm getting to the point that I can hardly contain my dislike of the ppimv or the mod5 tone; mud and screech.

Re: New Amp Specs with clips
Thanks, and with a good attenuator, the PPIMW and Mod5 are somewhat irrelevant.Strat78 wrote:The new clips are much better. I'm getting to the point that I can hardly contain my dislike of the ppimv or the mod5 tone; mud and screech.

Re: New Amp Specs with clips
Here are two new clips with the same set up except with some tweaks. They both are run through an Echoplex and one I added some MXR 6 band eq for some comparison.

Re: New Amp Specs with clips
In all honesty I cant really tell any difference between any of these much.I hear the tone of 'Mark', ya know ? I'd much rather hear you and your amp via a cellphone mic or something

Re: New Amp Specs with clips
It sounds damn good. I think I can hear how the MXR hits the echoplex a little harder, thus pronouncing the delay a smidge more. The MXR is in front of the Echoplex, right?

No slaving. The set up is using Mark's DI track and putting it through my signal chain -> MXR 6 Band (on or off with truebypass) - > echoplex -> upper left hole of amp. I am also using an attenuator. It is above bedroom volume but not much. SM57 -> Digi 002r -> Garageband.
I only use Mark's DI to test changes that I make in the spec. This way, I remove variables of the guitar, tuning, playing, etc and can try to hear what exactly the change in amp spec is doing. Sometimes I feel like my hearing plays tricks on me until I go back and listen carefully to clips. It is just a tool for fine tuning the amp.
For example, I can hear how the PPIMV was impacting the tone even though the MV was dimed, it was still having an affect. Similar to George's clips with the push pull bright cap. When the volume is wide open it "shouldn't" have an affect, but it seems to.
This spec is pretty close to stock plexi with a 0.047 for the mid cap.

Re: New Amp Specs with clips
I agree, finally removed the PPIMV and now it's fuller sounding. My amp never sounded better, straight 12000 spec with pihers, iskras and mustards...rgorke wrote:jof006 wrote:They all sound good to me.

Roger, what does the 47 mid cap do, in comparison to the stock 22nf
