Rant over.

Dude... stop drinking fermented mapel syrup.
mightymike is right in saying Roth's solo stuff is better than Sammys

I have Van Halen updates on my android Google news app, and it has just been a steady dose of self promotion and smack talk from Sammy almost everyday. He times the book and album release to a previous release date. Then when Tatoo came out, Sammy had me having really low expectations. Boy am I glad he was wrong. Now he just needs to shit up about it. The fans have spoken with their wallets. I actually feel bad for Satch and Chad who are class acts. The cat is out of the bag, and the album rocks. I bought the CD, and bought the album download off Amazon I like it that much.
It's not perfect. It's not his best tone, but it works for what they're doing. Ed does get lost in the mix at times. Wish I had the ISO tracks. That song honeybabysweetdollis my favorite right now. Ewe I just said Right Now.

Here's some more cans of worms (Just my opinion), but I liked the Eat em and Smile Album more than anything Haggar has been involved in including his work with VH. He got the best out of Vai on that Album. VH is still my favorite guitarist.

Even more worms: Here's a doozy. I miss MA vocals on the new album, but the kid is a better bass player and plays with the feeling of his dad but more edgy, aggressive, relevant, and fluid than MA. I hear a lot of Sheehan, and his dad in his rhythms. :hide: They are tight. I feel bad for MA because he didn't do anything wrong, but Valerie will be singing duets in VH before Ed would replace his son. That being said, they should hire a backup Singer for the MA parts live.

Yeah, although I have my opinions on the singer's impact on VH, this is about guitar TONE. So, it would be great to have this food fight (in a fun Animal House way) but in a more appropriate place. That being said...

VH with DLR and VH with Sammy, IMHO are two vastly different bands. I agree that we probably would NOT have this album without going through the Sammy years. Those years allowed Ed to branch out of his guitar slinger role to keyboards and other things that he as a musician is probably interested in.

I really really liked the DLR solo stuff with Vai and Billy. I saw them in '86, '87 or '88 (can't remember), in the fourth row at the Forum. The show was awesome.

I should get a "time out" for starting the thread,

I did get some tweets that the band is ok with folks taking pictures and video at their shows. Maybe someone should get a good high def camera and bring that in!!!

But back to amp tone,
"If you make a mistake, do it twice and smile and let people think you meant it." Jan Van Halen.

Well wait a minute here, didnt Sammy get a psychic download of cosmic wisdom from Little Green Men as he declared, so might put him over in the " we just win -Sheenius hierarchy, so...

Also so, didnt SAMMY HAGAR recent state in an interview he would happily work with Van Halen, calling he and Ed the greatest songwritimg experience of his life, and the said no offence to Joe

hmmmmmmmmm that speaks volumes and xalls out Sammy's BS douchebaggery

...for me to say Sammy's solo stuff is better than Roths was wrong...hey, it's all subjective and everyone is entitled to like what they like...What I meant to say is that, whether you like it or not, Sammy's solo career is, without a doubt, more acclaimed than Roth's is...period...not to say I am anti-Roth, cuz I'm not! For me, Roth is a genius in his own right and I luv the guy! I luv Roth Van Halen!! But let's face facts, Heavy Metal is a classic, from a classic period of rock 'n roll and it smokes...You may not like the guy, he's a hack guitarist for sure, but were not talking about Nickelback here...the guy can wail - he still can wail at 65 and his catalogue is pretty freakin impressive...

...through all these years, Sammy has really taken the high road...he put up with a LOT of shit from the brothers...why he is mouthing off now is really the first major chink in his armor and he would be better served to have left it all in his book...He's entitled to not like the new VH stuff, but he kinda has taken it too far...we all agree!..

..but let's not take the present and make it prove whatever subjective dislikes you have about the Van Hagar era...cuz that is what's happening here...Sammy being a dick now doesn't diminish or augment the past...it is what it is...

...this is an Eddie sub-board within the main MetroAmp board, so let's talk about Eddie...When Roth left, Eddie pursued Hagar -- we all know Hagar didn't really want to join the band...Eddie was like a divorced mom with two kids desperate to find a new husband and daddy for the kids -- remember how those two were back then? Like a new couple hanging all over each other - it was embarrasing almost...If Sammy didn't join the band, what would have happened to VH?? Hummmm, I don't think it would have been a pretty for Eddie, not to have a band...And for me, no Van Halen would be worse than having Van Hagar, or Van Patty Smyth, or Van Townshend, or whatever he was going to do to find another lead singer..All Sammy did was take Van Halen to another level of success, undisputable...like it or not, don't blame the guy for being successful with Van Halen and illegitimize it because he's being a dick now...

...from my perspective, Hagar saved Eddie, he saved the band and they flourished in the '90's when just about everyone else from the 80's perished...Hagar can be a dick, but for gods-sake, give the guy his due...

..now I'll go back to finishing my '68 plexi project and we can get on to more fun stuff!

:champ:

Man, me too. The set list from the Forum isn't too promising. With that list, I'm hoping they do as much new stuff as possible. I'm strongly hoping for some surprises on this tour. The same greatest hits set list from the 2007 - 2008 tour isn't necessary. Whip out some Fools, Simple Rhyme, Hang 'em High, Drop Dead Legs, Girl Gone Bad, Full Bug, anything. They're all as great as the next. Please mix it up!
Interpretation?! I thought I was playing it right!

As glad as I am that DLR is back & as much as I love the new LP (except the harsh 6L6-based tone), that's a fair assessment of Sammy and the boys from VH. He did serve a great purpose, but it had played itself out by "Balance and it was time for a change." Sammy had at least 10 killer songs before VH (before "Three-Lock Box") and I loved "For Unlawful..." I also loved DLR's "Skyscraper." But I'm glad things are the way they are now. DLR can't sing live, but he belongs in VH and I love his vocals and presence on the new studio album. It sounds great! I agree that they need some back-up vocal help for the tour. I read Sammy's original pulled autobiography accounts of his time in VH and Valerie's first book. From what I gather, Sammy's a dick, Eddie and Alex are dicks, and DLR is a dick. The only nice guys are Wolfie, Gary and Mike. But DLR is more fun than Sammy, and that's what VH is about. When Ed got married the first time, VH began it's decline. It got worse when Sammy joined- who was also married. Remember the movie, "Whipped?" Nobody wants to hear about your sexual exploits with your old lady. They want to hear some single guy's exploits with the strange he met last weekend. That's where DLR excels. And that's why everybody loved Charlie Sheen in "Two and a Half Men" (and why Chelsea had to go...). Sammy is a much smarter business man than I fear the VH brothers will ever be, but at some point he's just going to have to accept that Ed has managed to make it without him and that should be o.k. for both of them. It's good he stuck up for Mikey, too.

Well, I must apologize. I'm nowhere near his accolades.... but, I'm good with that...

There was a live interview years ago (also in mag's) when asked about the whereabouts of Sammy working on this new album
(forgot which one)
(I'm sure most of you have seen him say and; how Ed takes his music v e r y passionately .)
Ed was majorly tweaked when Sammy calls in and treated Van Halen's work ethic with a hippie mentality saying last minute, he should relax and it will all happen when "I" get there...
Well, that just put a baaaaaad taste in my mouth...
Really now, who is Sammy ? Why does he belong here in debate?
rgorke Topic invites the slaming more than the praising...
So I do get why the debate.

Ed's tone. Right here right now... Why he likes his new tone. What the real B+ is and the tubes that are handling ? What's stock and what new myths, ehh, bullshit will he be offering about the circuit... watt-ever, as long as it's not about Sammy Hagar in the Eddie Van Halen section.

Believe me if there was a way to have an "off topic" in EVH section it would be done.
I will let ALL of MetroAmp's members decide again with a NEW poll to have an "off topic" under the EVH Section.
If the numbers are right then Admin will go for it. If not... I guess I'll shut up and eat more Popcorn
I'm guessing there's gonna' be a lot of anonymous votes this time around....

BTW I just luv the topic title..." Sammy's got" It's soo fun changin' the words around... :P

Ok without going all DLRArmy on you guys (since I have/had a strong connection over there) I'll say this and keep it on the amp forum topic. Ed's Plexi sounded better when Dave was in the band, than it did with Sammy. :D
Why is it we can remember where all the wires go, but can never find a pick?
