EVH plexi specs

I know a few of you guys are hip to this page already. For those who aren't yet, it's some accounts of what components are in EVH's plexi. The quotes are taken from the plexi palace forums.

hey george --

new to the forums - got a great community happening here.....

the amps & kits look the business -- i'm sure i'll be parting with some hard earned cash at some point !

re; the EVH specs --- i had loads of things changed inside my 72 super lead about 14 years ago -- including a voltage reducing mod (see pic).
it looks very dodgy being attached to the side like that, but i've been assured its safe ? hmmm.... thinking of hauling it off, but the sound does change..... and sounds rubbish if i have to use a powerbrake
(yuk) --- i'm interested in your powerbrake mod, but i see you've taken it off the site ... could you give me some info on this?

HI Zeeb, welcome to the board.

I still do the PB mod, I just took the page down because nobody seemed interested. The cost is $150. I do have a few PB's on the shelf if you don't have one.

About the voltage mod- I wouldn't feel safe with several hundred volts being exposed on the side of the chassis like that! You should at least get some shrink tube put over the terminals of those power resistors.

Really you should think about removing it altogether, IMO. There are more eloquent ways of getting great tones from your classic Marshall.

I'm a huge VH fan and I've read everything I can find for eq settings, volume controls, amp mods, etc etc......I've heard the variac stories, and so forth. If all he did was lower the input voltage (and I'm thinking that is a big if...), would it be right to say that if you put in a smaller PT say.....325-0-325, as opposed to a 480-0-480, you would get the same result without starting any fires with the variac?

Not to mention that your heater voltage wouldn't drop due to said variac.
