Hmm... Can you be a bit more specific?

Comparing the We Die Young clip to the RWTD clip, it seems that raising the pick-up was the right thing to do. You a tiny bit more input signal/ compression and it refined things just that much more. Well done!

Now, what do you think of the MM1300 vs. the DSD?

I'm using the 1400 on the RWTD clip... as on the clips before... it's just that seccond take on " We Die Bold " I use the 1300...

What I think of the 1300 vs DSD... well, I think that the DSD is outstanding... it falls sooo nice into my hands... those agressive mids fits me like a glove... actually more than the 1400... eaven if it sounds better on " tape " ...

I haven't really managed to get the 1300 to sound as good as I want to... there's too much flubbyness, and not enough highs for my taste...

You tried angling the pickup? 8)
Cheers to the ears.

No... and I don't think I will... maybe it will be some difference, but no... Ed only had the pu angled on the striped franky, not on the demo... I think... correct me if I'm wrong

Did you mean me?

Well, when I hear many of Ed's clips- and many of yours- I hear the notes after they are stuck and held...expanding and "blooming" then beginning to decay. I suppose it is all part of sustain rather than gain or distortion.

Does that make any sense?

I think you are right...the pickup was angled in the Frankenstein, beginning with the Black and White phase and through all the incarnations, but in my opinion it was angled only slightly. It was never angled quite so severely as the production model Kramers angled their pickups. If the angling of the pickup (regardless of the degree of the angling) had any effect on the tone, I haven't been able to distinguish a difference...

Looks like the pickup is angled in this photo. Not sure how this lines up with the demo but it appears he had it angled during the club days.

It was angled in the club days shortly before the first album. I've done both with the same pickup, same guitar, etc and it does effect the bite on the high end in the way that I think you would like with the MM1300. It's only like one screw width difference on the low and high E strings so a tremendous amount but noticeable.
Cheers to the ears.

Ok, it seams I need to reconsider... honoustly I'm not sure I'll put in the effort... I think it sounds good enough... IF I don't get the erge to put in the 1300 again, and see if I can get something out of it...
We'll see

Moving your pick-up in the smallest amounts will change the tonality of the instrument. The closer to the bridge, the brighter the sound; the further from the bridge the bassier/fuller.
Essentially you pick-up different harmonics depending on where the pick-up is placed.

It is about finding that sweet spot between clarity and fullness.
I personally believe that most strats have their bridge humbucker too close to the bridge.

It is worth experimenting with, even if for one's personal tone!

You try that 1300 again Ralle, just to be sure! Who knows? The humidity could be different tomorrow! BUT, it looks like you need a second guitar now for sure! 8)

Ralle,

Im MIA from the board for a while and come back and this is the first soundclip i choose to listen to - now I know why I stopped coming here ! No darn way I'll ever be able to come close to this clip - simply brilliant my friend!

But what amazes me most is not your tone - its the fingers brother - you've got some real talent there and it shows that you've diligently applied it to learning Ed's unique style. Your a tremendous asset to this forum!

thanks again - now back to woodshedding!
