Help Me Fill My Hole Contest

Post by syscokid » Sun Aug 07, 2011 7:42 pm

I've decided to ditch the Vari-Watt circuit in this amp. I'll be trying it in a different amp. Anyways, since there is this pretty cool looking, empty hole next to the Standby switch, I'm very open to any suggestions in what to do with this hole... :what:

Besides any constructive replies, "Nastiness" and "Funniness" is also very welcomed... :drummer:

The winner of this contest gets one of these nice trophies: :champ:

Be cool if you could add another rocker and incorporate the half power set up like in the Jub.

Just put a jack in there, but don't wire it to anything, to keep everyone guessing what it is ...like the mythical white knob on the back of Ed's plexi.

Is this the same as a Pentode/Triode switch?

I remember, about 20 years ago, I jammed with some guy who had glued, just below the Bridge/Tailpiece of his guitar, an exposed 2x2 inch circuit board with resistors and a couple of wires and a mini-toggle switch. My first reaction (along with hundreds of others...) was: "WTF?"

Yup...

It didn't do anything...but make you go: "WTF?"

You've got a great looking amp there by the way. Love the oxblood (?) chicken head knobs.

A "Bump" for this question:

And also:
A mod I was just considering is a "Sag Mod". This would fit nicely next to the Rectifier circuit, and the on/off switch could occupy that hole. Has anybody tried something like this in this type of an amp? ....Opinions?

Whoops sorry man, missed that. The Pentode/Triode switch is the third rocker I'm referring to.

Put a toggle, with an insulated bushing, with the body connected to B+ to keep sound guys and lead singers from messing with your amp. Label it "-12 Db" :stars:

On a more serious note, I did put a PPIMV in a similarly located hole on a friends amp that someone had drilled. I used shielded wire and hum seemed not to be a problem.

Install the nice Carling switch (this switch offers a good sounding proper click!) and connect it to nothing.
Then invite your guitarist friends for an A/B listening test and enjoy the results

First, I'll make sure that we all have consumed massive amounts of beers...that of coarse, my friends have all brought! Then do the A/B testing. They'll be more passionate about the glorius results! And after I get them hooked...I'll offer to do the mod to their amps for $100 plus part(s)....

I've got a switch on the back of one of my amps for selectable bias to toggle between 90v and 120v. I almost made the mistake of plugging it straight into the wall on the 90v setting and smoking a set of vintage Sylvania fat Bottles, so I was going to install a switch the had the red cover plate that you always see in the movies when the nerdy air force guy turns the key at some underground base in Colorado and the flips the cover and waits for the Presidents order to Nuke the "commie bastards"...ya know, one of those switches. Anyways, I digress; I think that would look pretty cool, and you could put something like "warning, do not touch!" above it. I like the idea about the insulated bushing too...maybe just less than lethal voltage. You should do that and when some smart ass flips it and zaps himself, you could be like "WTF? It says don't touch retard!" and then have a good laugh about it. Better yet, you could set up a camera and take it to NAMM or something and film people zapping the shit out of themselves and then post it here for our entertainment pleasure. Just think if you could zap some well-deserving soul like Gene Simmons, DLR or Richie Blackmore; I would pay to see that. Not enough voltage to kill em you know; just more like a "Hey, your a douche, and we're all gonna have a laugh at your expense now" level of voltage. :D

Good start, but that could be a long and varied list. Ha ha ha.
