need advice on 10000 series...
hey guys,
i'm looking for opinions on a 10,000 series with an fx loop into a 2x12 with EV12L's...
do you guys have any advice/opinions on this set up... i'm going for cream era clapton tones, with a nik huber orca, EJ strat, pete cornish distortion pedals....
thanks in advance...
Luke.

Re: need advice on 10000 series...
for EC tones you need G12Ms, preferably the old 20watters. I'd go with the germino fillmore, or similar specs, for crossroads. the screens filtering and preamp voltages are important. ask george if he can make one with 16uf on the screens and with dual preamp droppers like the 12000 series.
I don't think there much need for a loop since the preamp runs quite clean. running effects in front work well for me

Roe, Do you think i'd be best with a 10000 series for later cream and EJ ACL '88 tones or should i be looking at the 12000?

I definitively prefer 10000 for EC. the 10000 can give good EJ tones as well, esp with a booster/driver, but I am not certain about ACL. what amp did he use in that period?coolhand78 wrote:Roe, Do you think i'd be best with a 10000 series for later cream and EJ ACL '88 tones or should i be looking at the 12000?

I could be wrong and I'll check tomorrow but I beleive it was a 69 superlead that had the cap removed to make it a superbass... I also beleive he used celestial 80 watt speakers...Roe wrote:I definitively prefer 10000 for EC. the 10000 can give good EJ tones as well, esp with a booster/driver, but I am not certain about ACL. what amp did he use in that period?coolhand78 wrote:Roe, Do you think i'd be best with a 10000 series for later cream and EJ ACL '88 tones or should i be looking at the 12000?
At the end of the day EJ is just trying to cop EC tones...
I'm going through one of those 'should I sell everything and just get the gear that created my 'grail' tone' phases...

Eric told me it took him about 20 seconds to dial in "his tone" with my 45/100, a Strat and a fuzzface. He does like M's but also said that a '68 era straight basketweave cab with 014 cone H's is probably the best rock cab of all time.

if we were sticking with george's amps/cabs would you go pinstripe or basketweave cab?

Sorry for hi-jacking the thread. Would a 10000 series be right for getting a Jimmy Page live tone. I am thinking HTWWW/TSRTS. Any thoughts.

Pretty sure you want a 69' spec with a big bright cap for that, keep the volume relatively low, get that thinned out Page sound we love, with the stiff power amp response.
