Squier, Hohner, Carvin, AND he's melting tubes and burning down the neighborhood, in the traditional spirit of Halen! Whatever may be "sniffed" as lacking in your setup (and I don't smell none) is totally OverRuled by balls out presentation!

You be careful dude. Was it something happened 'after the mod?

Now you got me goin' to that mod thread. Is it preferable to have the lower filtering first a la 67-68 VH specs before that mod, or I guess I could give it a shot on my 69 12000 Metro anyway? It's stiff as a brick, in a really good way. Guess I'll read the thread before asking a bunch o' dumb questions here. I'll ask 'em over there!

Does it sound better with 2 KT-77? Or has it been 2 since before you did the PPIMV and Mod V and you can't compare?

I didn't get a chance to compare. I'm just too cheap to buy two more tubes, haha.

It's funny how a lot of a Marshall's gain is just virtual from the highs. I tried the amp with my friends Orange 4X12 with V30's and all the gain was gone!!

I just noticed that you (Atomic Punk) wired up the 'wrong' input. 'Wrong' meaning if you wanted it to look like you were plugging into the hi/bright input, ala Hendrix, or Halen, etc.

Doesnt matter I guess, just aesthetics.

While close, once again it is the playing that puts it over the top. I really believe a lot of us listen to the playing more and not the tone. If the licks are good it carries. I hear a hollowness to the tone..it is really noticable on the very first note before the playing kicks in. Also the notes become messy as the faster riffs come into play. That sounds like either too much preamp or the front end being goosed too much. Still killer by any means and a nice job.

Also, those arent 25 watt speakers huh ? Peavey never made any real 25 watters did they ?

I agree with Star*Guitar,, I do hear just a hair too much preamp gain,, but in this 2203 front/ppimv combo,, MOST tend to not run the front panel vol.1 and volume2 past 7 or 8 'o clock, when they have the ppimv dialed down so low.

Atomic Punk says that he dimed the two front panel knobs.

Still, that tone gets a 'wide' catch of the tones I grew up liking. I can hear a great 'Back for the attack' era Lynch for instance.

I also love the 'tweak' possibilities of this particular circuit. It will be fun seeing how different coupling caps (v2 and the PI for instance) will alter the tone.

I hear the exact same thing. I really need some good speakers and then I can start to tweak the amp.

The speakers are MagnaLabs. They were in Carvin cabs in the early eighties. The gain does get pretty fizzy with the PPIMV down so low. I'm just looking for some decent and reliable tone at all volume levels. I think this spec is the best way to get me there.

I think it is great that you played a $99 guitar with a inexpensive pu for that clip. a real good learning experience about not having to use a expensive axe loaded with duncans, dimarzio's etc
