questions, running hi fi speakers

Post by Xplorer » Wed May 11, 2011 4:10 pm

hello !

well, my question will maybe make you laugh ; ) but i'm not so familiar yet with the impedance, what it means, the wattage, the equations ...

i've just found in the street some JAMO CBR 200 , and i suppose that they should be quite easy to repair, maybe changing the capacitors inside, ( two hi fi speakers from 1985 i think ) , or removing them, or something, using the speakers directly, like in a guitar cab ? i suppose that the caps are here for the mid range and high range potentiometers, to adjust their level, and also for the over load LED. do i need it ? it adds some complexity ... ( ? )

i know that it might not sound very good, not a guitar speaker but why not ? i don't have any speakers anyway for my metro 69. using a speaker simulator till i get some G12H30.

should i put them back in the street ? they're big ...
but having fun with them, why not.
as it reads 200 watts, i guess that it should be able to handle the metroamp 100 watts, especially if i can't play it at full volume ( neighbours ) , right ?

i suppose that it won't blow my amp, in the worst case, the speakers would be damaged but i don't really care, unless i discover that they're good for monitoring or something ...

what do you think ?

and especially : how should i test the speakers, one by one, to see if they're working ? cause i wouldn't like to have my amp running on a circuit that is cut at some point, this would be bad for the amp !

i let you see some pictures to help thinking.
thanks !
