Music composed completely free of style but not being free of form,it has a very interesting chord progression with never returning chords!

Re: Being In the ZONE
I can dig playing , so called, 'free form, but playing in this style must communicate in a way that is BEYOND cerebral. I mean, why does the scale use in these so called 'free form' type solo's consist of melodic/minor and altered diminished type scales ?
This type playing is a STYLE as much as rock is, and some musicians favor it.
True 'free form' music could consist of almost any/random scale or idea. I think simple pentatonic type licks can be just as free form as melodic minor scales.
I liked the late '70's UK stuff for Holdsworth. The tone on this 'SAND' track sounded VERY mid '80's, like he was using a Scholtz Rockman or something. Not my favorite tone or playing of his.

Re: Being In the ZONE
Though Holdsworth IS a phenom, to my ear Frank Zappa easily played the same sort of "style" when it fit his music, and was playing like that before Allan Holdsworth was. To me, that Holdsworth clip from "Sand" sounds an awful lot like this clip by Zappa:

If you put both clips on simultaneously, and switch between the two, you can hardly tell the diff.
Thanks for posting the Holdworth clip, though. I really enjoyed that.
