mbox mini 2 or presonus firebox ?
Which one would be better for simple home recording of electric guitar only , and why?

I think it's less about the hardware, and more about the software that you use. I've used ProTools, Cubase, Ableton, and Garage Band. If you have a mac, stick with garage band and get a simple interface. Out of the two units you listed though, I would pick the Presonus unit. I've had nothing but headaches with any of the Digidesign products.

I have a presonus firebox and two firepods daisy chained running through Reaper software... I know there is better but this works for me and I get 16 inputs with the two firepods daisy chained for band recording! I use the firebox when I am recording just me... Can't really say a bad thing about it!

Some little birdie told me it might be ALL about the preamps....
