Hi - thanks - it turned out great. Globe is same as georges amber lamp - but red. Found it on ebay. Layout is as per the Hendrix Dickinson amp. B Batz has a GREAT layout here.

Still kept the original 56k slope. Used .018 instead of .022 mustards. Used 560 & 300 lemco's.

I scaled the cab from Georges pictures on his Plexireplica site. Didn't have drawings. Only had external dimensions. It was a bit difficult trying to measure the piping slots, vent locations, back panel openings etc etc from the photo's but when you locate the chassis in the blank cab you get a fair idea. It's probably not EXACT but it's pretty close & it only cost me around $100AU all up. It's finger jointed construction, B grade ply. 5/8" case & 1/2" front & rear.
Was a lot of fun building it.

I guess its hard to find decent new preamp tubes that can stand the HIGH preamp voltages in this amp. for instance, v2 in mine has a voltage of 360v - something which will easily kill the tung sol and many sovteks. Also, I must admit that I cannot stand the jj 83s

I'm not a big JJ Preamp tube fan either.
There's still some good NOS deals out there though, considering.

I think the prices for NOS 12ax7s are just insane, esp. in the US. I've never paid more than 15usd for a 12ax7. Its all about finding the right tubes for each individual amp since tubes and amps vary quite a bit.

There's some good ones around for V1 and the PI.
the Tung Sol RI's sound good to me, as do most of the mullard RI.

yes, those are fairly good. but the high voltages in the cathode follower of these amps can kill those tubes in a few days

Yeah I use the GE Nos for the CF stages.
