45-100 tone controls
i made an interesting observation about my super amp.....
the tone controls,at least to me, seem way more "active",or have a "wider"
range, than my regular 1959's!
it's the same tone circuit, right?? anyone else experience this?

Re: 45-100 tone controls
your SLP will have a 33k slope resistor and 470pF treble cap
the 45/100 will have a 56k slope resistor and 250pF treble cap
as such, I'd expect the 45/100 to have more responsive tone controls.

Re: 45-100 tone controls
Maybe due to the higher voltage on V2 in a JTM45/100?

"regular" 1959's do have 33K/500p in the tone stack.lifer wrote:... than my regular 1959's!
then they aren't "regular", but tweaked.lifer wrote:all my SL's have the 56k/250

The fault almost always is sitting in front of the amp

Re: 45-100 tone controls
perhaps the reason is that the jtm is cleaner wheras the 1959 is more distorted (so that the poweramp shapes the eq more)?

Re: 45-100 tone controls
In a split-cathode Lead, you've also already shaped the EQ balance to a degree, with the choices of cathode resistor and cap on the Bright channel (usually the 2.7K/.68uF combo) and the coupling cap into the next stage (less bass right off if you're running the .0022uF coupling cap.)

yep-- 10-4!
i suppose the "mixer" values have an affect also. put 'em all together and it's
a bit of a different beast.
