if you wan't a tip for packing head cases ....do not reinforce just the corners ,reinforce also the rest of the surface ....i worked with them and i know what happens ....there are roller tables which strait ends are the worst ennemies of the packages ...when you carry them to put them on those hell tables(after 4 trucks even a letter is hard to carry) ...those ups bastards only work by hands ...no fenwick ....just like in the streets of soweito (southern africa )
...time machine to the 17e century and suddently you feel your white skin turning into dark brown : yes master , if you desire it master !!! Yes i can tell , i survived this hell !! my broken back just witnesses it ....

99% of what I get from the US is via the USPS and I never have a problem. The delivery time varies between three days and two weeks, but it's mostly under 7 days.
Why do you all use couriers?
In the UK I've used DHL for inland and overseas mail with no problem, same with FedEx. UPS were fine when I first started using them around eight years ago, but I've had numerous problems with them over the past four years.
I don't use UPS anymore and always try to make sure nobody sends me anything via UPS if I have a say in it.
The last parcel I sent via UPS resulted in an invoice for a service I hadn't booked. I booked 'expedited' but it got sent 24-hour. It took over a year of letters, court threats and debt collectors till I got it sorted. I think they just got sick of me in the end.
My most recent UPS fiasco was a parcel a company sent me (I had no say in who they used), it took UPS FOUR attempts to deliver the parcel when I waited in for them each day on my week off. Their depot is too far away to drive and pick it up myself, though it would've been a whole lot easier to make the 80 mile round trip.

UPS...ugh...just say no. My current record with them is 9 out of 15 packages damaged, or completely destroyed. Not an average I'd like to have as a business.
I quit using them 2 years ago after they trashed a Marshall Studio 15 I bought on eBay, insured for it's value, and was packed with 5.25 inches of foam rubber around it when their guidelines were 3 inches. They denied the claim due to poor packaging. Screwed with their customer service for 4 months then sued them in court, won the entire insured amount, plus court costs and everything.
But instead of admitting they dropped it 8 feet, they fought like mad dogs to not give me a realistic settlement (they offered 1/2 of what I insured the amp for with them), it was shipped and packed by one of their own agents, and they wound up making me swear them off forever and refusing packages from clients that shipped me items through them.
I relented about 3 months back with a client who wanted to ship me back a speaker to swap out for another one. Sure enough, they dropped it, even though it was double boxed, and had extra packing, bent the frame, cone had voice coil rub, and the poor client DIDN'T insure it for it's full value, like I told him to.
Needless to say, now the client hates UPS, doesn't have a Scumback (I hope he got his $100 cuz they never contacted me to see it), and I finally had the frame straightened at OCSR and reconed with a 1777 kit, Pre Rola doping and a large dust cap. It's a Celestion comparison speaker now, even though it's my frame.
So, there's the bottom line...NEVER USE UPS!

I have had numerous damaged items when shipping with ups from my store, each time I file a claim they turn it down saying it was not packed to ups requirements, and I protest it and they have paid each time,so I guess I have been lucky, but its scary as hell to ship any items with them,I avoid ups as much as possible! last item damaged was an amp sent to Flames1950 a black flag prototype clone built by Andy and ups thrashed it,I am shure they did pay the claim after some run around. bluze

I haven't had any major problems with ups, though the boxes are always jacked up when they arrive. A buddy of mine worked at the local christian bookstore and ups delivered their shipments, every time he got a shipment a few of the boxes would be damaged (go figure
), well he wouldn't put up with their crap and just didn't take the boxes. the ups guy would whine and he just told them not to screw up the boxes anymore.
I thought some of you would like to hear about stickin' to the (ups) man.

DHL lost a DBX DriveRack PA, with the RTA microphone, that I had bought and paid for using eBay/PayPal.joshwilson3 wrote:I always use DHL. Whenever I get George to build my amp, I'll request it be shipped via DHL.
Glad to see that some of the chaps at DHL are into music and need parts for their PA systems, but it sucks that they had to take the one I bought.
I did finally get a DriveRack, but this was 3 months after the initial purchase, using USPS, and with a different seller.

I ordered an amp head case from George on the 1st. George is a VERY prompt shipper...most orders go out the same day unless you order after his driver has already been there. Then they go out the next day. He sent UPS the shipping info on the 1st and his driver picked up the package on the 2nd.
I kept checking the tracking info and the tracking info never was updated...it just said Billing/Shipping Information Received...up until yesterday. Now all of a sudden it says "Origin Scan" in Flint MI!
So I emailed George, which he confirmed that he was 100% sure that it went out on the 2nd. HOW THE FUCK DOES UPS LOSE TRACK OF A FUCKING PACKAGE THAT IS AS BIG AS AN AMP HEAD CASE!!!???
Then I call them and they're like "Well it says here we received the package yesterday" and I'm like "WELL NO FUCKIN' SHIT BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT HAPPENED!!!" And they're basically telling me tuff shit there's nothing they can fuckin' do!
Every fuckin' time I've ever used UPS I have nothing but fucking problems with them. FedEx? Hell they're here on the day of scheduled delivery before I even wake up! UPS? They get here when they fuckin' feel like it, and if your driver feels like getting off work early they reschedule your fuckin' delivery!
So boycott UPS! They fuckin' suck!

UPS is fuckin bullshit... nearly every single time i have problems with them...
the best of all, i'll never forget...
it was december or something, and there was snow about 2 - 3 feet high, and it was snowing for weeks. i ordered a neve compressor, and i almost waited 3 weeks... some day, i was looking outside my window, watching some kids playing in the snow... and then i saw something brown shining through the snow in my front yard... i went out, and there was a totally wet and icey package... it sure was lying there for about a week or something... what do those fuckers think? when nobody's home, just throw the package over the fence and that's it? who needs a signature that i got the package??? i called them up and asked them what the hell went wrong with them, and the girl on the phone told me that "you have signed when it was delivered..." ... WHAT??? i didn't sign anything, i wasn't at home at all, and why the hell should i leave my compressor one week in the snow??? thank god the guy who sold me the compressor packed it so good, it didn't took any damage... but what's next? you could easily hide a guitar in that much snow just by putting it there... when no one's at home for 5 or 6 hours and it snows like it did back then, there's so much snow on it you CAN'T see it... you wouldn't even see it if it was an acoustic guitar... hopefully it was not, if so, i would only say smith & wesson.
but that was just "the best" thing... i could write a whole book about UPS stories that went wrong.
so... ok, tryin' to calm down again, when i remind that i get a lil bit
