Add a jumper between pins 3 and 8 of the phase inverter tube (the third 12AX7) so that the yellow wire jumps over to the empty pin 3. It runs shared cathode, and right now only one half of the tube is operating. Another trick much like the resistor on the second 12AX7's socket. See what kinda sound that gives you.
And quitcher whinin' about goin' nuts, man -- after all you really picked a doozie of a project to learn this stuff on!! :D :D

Oh, and if that doesn't cure what ails ya, we may need details on those resistors on the output jacks -- a DI out?

Yes, the second jack is a DI out. It was there on the old amp, and has for whatever reason remained on the amp, though I have no intention of taking a DI tap from there (if I were to take a DI tap, I'd do it off the Hotplate, post power tube).

If you guys say no need for it I'll pull that P.O.S. off of there faster than you can say "get rid of it!" Actually, thinking about it, I'm going to pull it off the next chance I get.

I've got nothing to whine about, but that never stopped me before. I also have a tendency to bite off more than I can chew.

I'm just hoping this thing is getting close....

That DI looks no different then the kind youd find on a hotplate

Perhaps, but I'd still need to run a load on the output jack if using that DI. Plus, the Hotplate has the "deep" and "bright" switches, and an adjustable level on its DI out, so I'd likely use that DI instead.

Bottom line, I do not need the DI out on the amp.

I was just sayin.

BTW not to be a ball buster but those deep switches arent on the DI. Theyre on the load. The DI is taken striat from the input signal from the amps output.

Oh. No big deal, if I'm taking the DI signal I can run it through an e.q. and do whatever I need to it.

I know, you woulda' told me to get my shinebox

I have a MASS which has the tone stack DI EQ but Im not big on it. When my Boss GE7 still worked the only really great use I ever found for it was a smile curve after the DI out.

In my mind it would be a rackamount tuner, but for now it will be a measly GE-7.

Also (in my mind) maybe a BBE Sonic Maximizer, a TC Electronics G-Major....
