Here is the top again... it looks dusty in the pic... I don't dust much, but I play this thing fairly regularly.

This thing won't let me upload anymore. I may need to send you a CD of all the pics.
The trannies are original, I don't know about the types and dates and all, but you can tell by the pics that they are what came with it.
Also the numbers on the pots all seem to match, all of them can't be read because things are in the way but:
137 937 3594 Meg Audio
3597 250K LIN 137 937
1 MEG LIN 137 830 3595
3595 1 MEG LIN 137
I have a lot more photos showing the trannies and such, I'll upload them if I can, or email them to you, or snail-mail you a disk if you want.
I know you're busy in LA this week, I'll try to get a hold of you next week.

Who would have known this particular thread would become such a godzilla! LOL!VelvetGeorge wrote:Here's the stock HW 100 watt. I put in Mullard reissue EL34's, the stock outputs were not sent with the amp. The preamps tubes are stock 12ax7s.
It's my typical chain:
Les Paul w/ '68 T tops > straight in > Power Brake, down 3 clicks > mid 70's straight cab with 25 W blackbacks > SM57 > N72 Neve clone > Nuendo.
No EQ or FX.
The clip starts with Vol on 10, all tone controls on 5. Half way through I turned all the tone controls to 10, but it squealed really bad, so I backed the presence off to 9.
George
EDIT I have attached a parts list for the tweaks I made, with links to the products in my store. VG

There is too much about an amp that you have to play yourself and feel. Only if you have played a lot of great amps can you tell when an amp you're hearing has that "thing".
I won't even go into the terrible affects of MP3 encoding...... ***BARF***
acoustic madness, welcome.

I quite agree, I have been trying to record decent clips of my amps for the last several years, with tape, with dedicated "professional quality" hard disk recorders, and with relatively cheap sound cards of varying qualities, and never have I done anything close to justice to the amp. That says about as much about my recording skills perhaps, as the equipment, nevertheless, it is an extremely daunting task to record (let alone play back with any quality) with fidelity. Which is one of acoustic madness' points perhaps. It also occurred to me that playing back the exact same piece at the same control levels would have made comparisons much more valid and possibly discernible.
Alas, I doubt that I have the ears to be any kind of reliable tone snob. I can detect obvious differences like changing a 0.022 uF Bass cap to a 0.01 uF cap (one of my favorite mods for TMBs.) But changing between a Mallory 150 and a Sozo would likely not register to me, though I haven't tried it yet, but I doubt that I can discern these differences. I can tell that Sprague Orange drops seem to sound more "barky" to me than yellow caps like M150s, Illinois, and imports. I also don't hear much difference in filter caps by brand, value certainly, but not brand. I don't hear much difference in rectifier tubes, e.g., vintage NOS USA made 5Y3GTs versus Sovtek or others. I just don't hear it. I thought filtering should make such things transparent, so I chock claims like that up to pure hype. Just my .02 and ramblings...
