Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice clip. IMO, at the peak of his career here. Kinda wish he had stayed with the Firebird/ Marshall combination. Sure is a lot better than the Musicman shit he switched to, and that headless Lazer leaves something to be desired. (like tone). :?

Muddy is the greatest bluesman ever IMO and the album "Hard Again" with Winter playing is a great record, I still listen to it often.

Found these little gems on YouTube from the pre Johnny Winter And days. Just some kick-ass blues done by a 26 year old albino kid.

Damn Fill those are incredible, what guitar is that, some sort of Epiphone, it looks like or a custom job. What an incredible tone, note articulation and feel, and not the hyper on steroids chorus laden stuff we had later!!! Thanks bud, that has to be some of the best hands down pure blues playing I have ever heard, just killer.
I loved Second Winter with its 3 sided LP's and Johnny Winter And is one of my favorites of all time, such a shame what happened to Johnny and how he was manipulated by his manager, ect.
That Muddy trusted him and did some of his best albums with Johnny is testament to Johnny being a true bluesman.
Yes we need to steal his freakin' Boss Chorus and drive over it with a monster truck..     and that Lazer, don't get me started!!
Nice to be on my home forum with my homeys!!
On an unrelated note, my Jim O'Connor interview, which Jim and I have been discussing for almost two years, is starting. He was telling me he made his start painting motorcycles, so more cool onfo on that soon!!

With the plinkiest tone I've ever heard and a bass tuned to a different pitch from the sounds of it to me, Johnny just friggen smokes, unbelievable

I thought you'd like that!! I think it might be some sort of Epi too, but Im not certain. I AM certain that those ARE some of the best clips of Johnny I've ever heard. Like you said... his tone and articulation are phenomenal.
Yeah, those early LP's are really great. Another HUGE favorite of mine was "Austin Texas", aka, "Progressive Blues Experiment".

Looking forward to the Jim O'Connor interviews too!!

Yep... Johnny killed on just about everything in his early carreer. I've seen this clip on the "Bits and Pieces" DVD. Lots of cool obscure tidbits there.

Theres a new book out about Johnnys life as well. should make for an interesting read...

Some questions and news about Johnny:

First of all I'm tryin' to get that raw Firebird sound on 'Still alive and well' with my '65 Firebird. Any idea what amp he used on this recording? I tried all the amps and cabs I own, but nothing came close. Not at all. I guess the speakers are crucial here.

Have you checked out his new album? The clips on youtube are awesome.

C**** uploaded a bunch of concerts on youtube too - great stuff.

Fritz, somewhere on this forum, I believe it was Yngwie308 that posted JW's amp and settings. To my knowledge, Johnny was known to use Marshalls with (very strangely) the treble turned up to "10" and all the other tone controls at "0".
It would explain his raw, super defined tone, but how a person gets a usable tone running a Marshall using those settings is beyond me. (With a Firebird, no less!! )

You can see a Marshall half stack in the left rear of the pic at 2:22 of this vid:
