Looking good Prowler! I have two amps that need head boxes so i may have to try this myself soon.

Thanks! Have you started modding your 2204 clone to afd #34 specs yet?

Next week my amp's head box is going to get wider holes on the back plate and a vent hole on the top.

Not yet unfortunately. My schedule at work has changed so my time has been limited. I hope to start on it very soon though!

I accidentally deleted my previous post. Here are the pics before the paint job:

I kind of screwed up the paint job yesterday. The dye drips on the frontplate. Maybe I can still fix it by sanding it off. I think I will add another layer of dye to make the box more darker after I dye it from the inside too.

Looks sharp! I really dig the finish that you chose for the head box!

Now the head box is finished. I am pretty happy how it looks.

It turned out great Prowler! Makes me want to do a stained finish on mine instead of tolex!

Today I installed the bias test jacks and recorded a quick clip with my digicam that has a lousy microphone.

http://1drv.ms/1E3Iazr

I guess I will have to remove those 1ohm resistors from the powertube sockets because the DMM does not show right results when I measure DC millivolts from the bias test jacks.

Then I did some more Larry grounding. I grounded the main and the screen filters to the far left side next to the bias pot with the blue wire. I think the amp sounds more aggressive and clearer now.

When I remove the 1 ohm resistors from the power tube sockets, do I ground the pins 1 and 8 also to the same lug that I used to ground the main and the screen filters?

Prowler, if I am seeing it correctly you have one resistor installed at the power tube socket and another biasing resistor mounted above in your new arrangement. Am I correct or did you disconnect the one's at the socket itself? For the 1ohm resistors to work properly you must have one lead connected to pins 1 & 8 and the other resistor lead connected to ground. Using two resistors at the same time would screw up the readings I believe. I am using Larry's method in my amps, but I am still using the socket mounting screw for my grounding point of each resistor. I believe he recommends grounding them along with the filter caps but I may be wrong on that.

You are correct. I need to disconnect the 1 ohm resistors from the powertube socket mounting screws to get the right readings from the bias test jacks. Is there a mistake on the Ceriatone's AFD layout? Should the red wire from the bias test jack go to pin 1 and from there to pin 8?

With EL34's pins 1 & 8 should be connected together and then to ground. Maybe they are assuming that pin 1 will be grounded separately at the socket mounting screw or they just made a mistake on the layout. They are showing 6550's there but the same would apply. I would connect 1&8 together with your red wire and run that up to each 1ohm resistor.

That sounds correct. Thank you my friend! Have you started doing the AFD mod yet? I ripped the shield trick mod out of mine but I might put it back again. One reason I took it out was it did not look nice with all the different coloured heatshrink.

I just converted the preamp in my 2204 over to the AFD layout that you had posted awhile back and it sounds great! I only wish that my playing could do it justice!

I am glad that your amp sounds great now! Did you also do the shield trick? I think I will put the shield trick back and try the #36 mod soon.

I'm not sure what the shielded trick is so I probably didn't do it...lol! How does it work?
