A new 12 000 - still working - update

So I have (finally) started on my 12 000.
Marstran C1998,C1999 and T26562 with the lower voltage option.
Metro chassis. A bunch of NOS parts as well as some new from Valvestorm.
Larry Grounding.

Anyways - a lot of info is lost in the recent server crash. Not too many pictures to look on and so forth so excuse any
(probably already asked) questions.
I have the Night Owl instructions version 4 - that I will use with the regular Metro manual.

My first question involves the OT and the direction:
In the thread about the Larry ground it is opposite of NightOwl's or Georges.
But everything written about it is deleted.
If I can choose I will probably put it the way it is in the Larry topic - so which way??

Pictures to come next time :)

Appreciate comments.

Thanks

It's staggering all the info that was lost. There were many dozens of detailed photos for every step of the way, never mind the beauty of some of the work! Anyway, the OT on a 12xxx chassis is oriented with the secondaries on the PT side and the primaries towards the inputs side of the chassis. Twist the primaries really good and run them a little closer to V5 vs. perfectly centered between V5 and V6, you want to keep the primaries and secondaries away from each other and this helps down the road when you run the secondaries between V5 and V6 as well. You can twist the secondaries if you want, but I just run them to the ohms selector and zip tie them really tight. Keep the secondaries closer to V6. Some like to run the secondaries between V6 and V7, I think that works but it is not historically accurate, if those things concern you. If you are doing the Larry ground try to keep the holes in a straight line from one end of the chassis to the other, it helps to have the choke, OT and PT mounted first so the ground holes don't get covered up. Do all the chassis drilling now to prevent small metal shavings and dust from causing trouble in the future.
Im sure you've seen this but, here is Roberts thread, you can see where the wires are pretty good plus the Larry ground layout. His pics are linked so they are still there!

Here's how I wired mine before the boards went in. All of the pics on my thread are linked as well, lots of those: http://forum.metroamp.com/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=39823

I used Strat78's pics from his awesome build thread and the pics from the Larry thread. I also used the Billy Batz PDF layout which was lost in the crash, but I have it saved. If you want the PDF, PM me your email and I'll send it to you. I also have pics from Strat78's build too...

It has been over a year :what:
Family, work - life.
Barely been able to keep some chops on the guitar.

Started on this one again today.

Will do the rest of the work with the power tube sockets tomorrow.

I wired the negative feedback wire to the 16ohm tap - of old habit. Have done that on all my builds.
Any comments on that?

BTW there will be progress now - maybe not daily - but weekly. If I am lucky. :palm:

Thanks for looking.

Getting closer :)

I am unsure how to route the COM from PT to the power board - the Eries don´t leave much space.
And can´t find a good picture to see how it was done all those years ago.

Anyways - some details below.

Anyone spotting something wrong before I install the power board?

Excuse the crappy shots, good light for working but not for taking pics :)
Anyway - mainboard installed and all connections made under. Pre tubes and controls also wired - except for the bright cap - not sure if I want one..
Image

Went through some of my stash and realized that I don´t have any large Iskras for the 10K and 8,2K - not sure if I will try to find those or use the Pihers i already have. Erie filter and also Erie cathode caps - Rifa bias caps.
Tone stack and bright channel mix caps - I am thinking 560 both places - but I have not decided

Suggestions?

Will probably do the components tomorrow and form the caps during the weekend.

Thanks for looking

Looks great!

Two of these would work in the preamp section:

Thanks for the heads up friend - will order some.
I have been out of the loop for some time - very high prices for the old stuff :?

Almost done with the mainboard - waiting for a couple of 10k Iskras.

Still need to decide if I want a bright cap or not - and then I need to reform..

The forming of the caps is about 20hrs old :)
I am down to around 2Vdc - but it is still drifting from about 1,5 to about 2,2.
I will stop after 24hrs no matter what :)

My LED (indicator) doesn´t work. I just took the wires together and connected them to the 120V on the PT - per Georges instructions (if I recall correctly). Need to check that one out.

Will fire it up after that.

Thanks

did you connect the two wires of the indicator together??

If I'm right, this are not going to work :)

with a 120v indicator lamp you can solder each wire to the lugs of the ON position of the ON/OFF switch.

I forgot to mention that I am in a 220V country.
