MAPLE CAP NECK STRAT'S VRS. ONE PIECE MAPLE NECKS
What doe's everyone think of the maple cap Strat neck versus the later skunk strip one piece maple necks in sound transfer and overall volume, tonality.I still love the sound of a good build maple cap,ala Hendrix. Are the '68,'69 Strats poyurethane paint on the bodies? When did nitro finish in '66?

All the info about specs on different years should be here:

I love that site, full of really cool photos and info. The cap necks take off a bit of the high end that the one piece necks have, since there's a large layer of glue quite close to the frets, and glue dampens the high end frequencies somewhat. That's probably why Mark said after his #1 LP had a headstock repair, if anything, it sounded a little darker.

Was the black Strat that Jimi loved so much and ended up with Monika Danneman, until she sold it,a maple cap neck.I think so?
By the way, where is that guitar?
This is part of the BOG tone that people may think are Super Bass amps, the maple cap cutting some of the highs. This belongs in the Hendrix thread,I know. This occured to me after reading Bainzy's post, the earlier Hendrix tone, with the one- piece necks, albeit mostly rosewood fingerboards,is quite a bit more trebley.
I find BOG tone to be not muddy in comparision, but definitely more bassy!
Interesting!

Thanks MacGaden,I actually have read that page before saved in my gazillion favorites,on another disc.
Not for sale,I bet that Paul Allen of Microsoft has it,or someone and they aren't disclosing it,hopefully not buried with Monika,
!
I always thought Hendrix had his trems against the body by the tone it had.
Thanks

If this has no 'issues',seems fairly priced,I wouldn't scallop it,but would convert it to 4 bolt neck mounting, with the malmsteen machine screw/brass insert routine, for 3-4 bolt conversions.I can remember the time when I couldn't stand large headstock/polyester Strats, only 'vintage',but I have mellowed in old age!
