I found and bought some 2SC859's anyway but now is where my electronics stupidity gets the better of me. I'm on mouser's website and I don't know where to start in buying the right capacitors. Tantalum, silicon, electrolytic, mylar, etc. With the EP-3 pre amp board and compressor board, I've seen photo's and was able to use as a guide but I'm pretty in the dark on this one. Any suggestions? I'm sure different types will be needed as there are a few and they serve different purposes but I don't know enough about their applications to be able to tell what type I need for what jobs they perform. Ratings too, the schematic tells some but all others have only values, no ratings. WTF? :bang:

Oh, and where the hell do you get a 40pF? Never seen one
Quit banging yer head..the unidrive is easy as pie... Most of not all the caps are electrolytic ..low vdc cheap...the 40 pf is tiny ceramic disc type..and remember as long as your within 20% in a box like this yer in spec...but nothing is written in stone on these pedals and you can experiment galore and actually I encourage that. There may be some effects porn shots on the net from serious cloners ..

I have a Doomidrive which is a booteek clone of a Unidrive. i can send you some gut shots if ya like. but i think the tone control in the Doomidrive is way more touchy than the Throbak.

I would set the EQ like this...leave the 100 and 200 right where they are, bump up the 400 so that it is right at the "9" line. Set the 800 slider above the "9" line or a bit higher. Have the 1.6k match the 400 and the 3.2k match the 100 or 200.

The tone seems too bitey for me and I crack that up to the 1.6k being really too high.

Try those setting and see how you like it. For me, the 800 is where the tone really blooms.

Finally, I would quarrel with your statement of not knowing what you are doing.

Try this:

OK. I'm better now after a nice long bo bo. I was without sleep and cranky.
So back to the issue at hand. I'll just try and find the Sprague, orange colored ones since there were in just about everything in those day.
Cheers to the ears.

Heard back from Jon at Throbak - he related that he doesn't have an easy mod to disable the tone stack in the Overdrive Boost, nor is there a custom version available.

somebody get me a.....soldering iron. moo.haw.haw.

Ive almost built mine now. Used a CSPB kit and added a switch to be able to lift the whole tonestack out and engage the PB back in where necessary; its made it a fairly versatile pedal as is. Hope it sounds ok :? : using current stock parts and bc109s.

Is anybody trying the actual Univox EC80 exact specs in place of the CSPB or is it not worth it as the circuits are so close? I'm not very clued up if the circuits will act similar, based on the values in each?
