while reading up on some stuff the other day. I'm not nearly smart enough to know if this is
a good source or not. I thought I would check out everybody's thoughts before
spending too much time there.
I searched this forum and only found a small reference by RIP and it doesn't really say how
good of a reference it is. Anybody??

Even though the book and site has the designer as his target you will find it helpfull as a modder or tweaker. Emphasizing a theoretical approach using maths in order to come up with your desired wishes or plans. It is a good thing when you are done with try and fail...

Thanks Omn, how does his style and influences go along with Vintage Marshalls?
The reason I'm asking is I began reading some of Gerald Weber's book "Tube Guitar
Amplifier Essentials" this summer and he was pretty opinionated on a couple of points
that got away from George's philosophy, which is "that's the way they did it in the old
Marshalls." And that's the way I like to think too.

Vintage Marshalls... Well, I guess sticking to the original schematics would be the way (even though they changed over time). It can be valuable to check out with calculations how they changed.

But as soon as you move away from that line, in to modding and tweaking, you are entering some kind of designer approach.

For both of these ways the book of Merlin Blencowe is a great tool.

I hear what you are saying though. And have found the same by many writers. We all have different views and tastes so I guess it is just normal, this "differ". One does not do away with the other.

Gotcha, thanks for the information. I think I'll check out the book. Hey I've got to start
figuring this stuff out. I want to know a whole lot more than I do right now! What are some more
recommended "must" reads? Try to sort them out by beginner, has a clue, danged smart and
Lord & Master. Please

If you have a general lack of knowledge in electronics a good basic electronics book would be good.
One that defines what everything is and how it works.

Such as, what is voltage, what is current, etc.

A used book store may be the place to see if you can score some 101 electronics books.
