General "noob" question concerning power supplies...

Post by 3lbMike » Sat Jun 20, 2009 6:24 am

I'm from the States, but currently living in England. I'd like to pick up an amp to enjoy and use while I am here, but eventually I'll be returning to the States, and of course I'd like to bring the amp back with me.

Given the power difference between the States and the UK, I'm seeking some advice on the best approach forward.

There are a few manufacturers that offer universal power supplies as a standard feature; however, this limits my choices severely. So, I am curious whether I should be very concerned about the power supply considering the following possibilities:

1) I assume I could use a step-up transformer when I return to the States?

or

2) I could swap the transformer out (I assume this is a typical mod...again a noob here).

I guess I'd like to know how someone with solid amp knowledge would typically approach this. Stick with the universal power supply, or no concern as there are feasible and common solutions???

Any advice is certainly appreciated.

Thx... Mike

I for myself don't like it much, when people who step on a new forum the first time can't say 'Hello' or something similar
Maybe because I've learned a different social behaviour in my childhood?

And this even is killing my mood, to give any help or advice 8)

The fault almost always is sitting in front of the amp

Good point. That was rude of me. I think because I have visited this forum many times reading various posts, I must of subconsciously already felt part of them. Nonetheless, that's no excuse for not saying "hello". Believe it or not, I was raised the same way Larry. So, my apologies to all, as my intentions are certainly not to be rude.

Hello, my name is Mike, and I am new to the forums. As you can see from my original post, I have a very noob question concerning amp power supplies. Any advice would be very appreciated. Again, my apologies for the brash entrance.

Mike
