ha! don't feel bad. The SD is new to me... I mentioned (in another thread) that it was new to me in that it slipped through the cracks...
Prolly when I was overseas at the time it made it's debut... (yes.... that long ago)
I can say this I did though have 2 SH-4's -JB and didn't cut the mustard both times. Ofcourse I didn't have these insane amps at the time, but I can say although diffent mags, that the SH4 vs. the 5 sound similar with the Alnico 5 JB having an more high's & separation in the notes and the ceramic SH-5 with more smear & growl.

Anyway look for the little white sticker w/initials

Yeah, that's how I describe it too. The ceramics seem to offer a more 3D sort of texture and smear. More complex if you will whereas the AlNiCo stuff is maybe a little more separated. Both are good. Just depends on what you're after. 8)
Cheers to the ears.

I just pulled the trigger for a dsd for my new strat. I have a mod 5 type cascade spec going on, would a 250k or 500k pot be better with that? Rosewood fretboard and basswood body. It currently has a Duncan design jb clone in it which I like with the 250k pot, should I just go with that?

I'd start with that and just see how you like it. I use 300K pots with DSD's and to me, it hits home.
Cheers to the ears.

.
Unless you have a pot specifically designed to do that, that is not correct. A standard pot on 10 is not fully out of the circuit and still bleeds off some highs.

That was completely sorted out back on page 3, btw!

Both pups jive well with my spec, but yes, sell that pointy eared DSD and get that no-face-print SD !
Grab a Sqaure eared DSD when you can.
Now the secret is out of the bag. There is a huge difference between the square and pointy legged DSD. IMHO
