Pickup Questions... Duncan to Gibson Swap?
I have a Les Paul clone from Japan. It is an Edwards (ESP) John Sykes Model Les Paul...
It has the Duncan Distortion pickups in the Neck and Bridge positions, however...
I have noticed that under Heavy overdrive/distortion settings on my amp, the pickups really seem to lose clarity.
Has anyone played with or used a Gibson "Dirty Fingers" pickup?
They are 12K ohms compared to the Duncan Distiortion at 16.7K ohms.
I know Sykes use to use a Dirty Fingers in the bridge of his old faithful '78 Black LP custom for heavy Jose-modded, Marshall 1987's cranked into tone/sustain heaven for many years (Thin Lizzy/Whitesnake/Blue Murder).
According to his Website:
"There was a Gibson "Dirty Fingers" pickup in the bridge position for many years but that pickup started malfunctioning after all the years of wear. It was replaced with a lower output Gibson PAF re-issue pickup a few years ago."
But I was wondering if any of you all have tied one?
Thanks

Very dark! The bridge pup (megadrive) sounded like a regular neck pup.Bow wrote:What didn't you like?
Too Hot?
Too Grainy?
No articulation. They just sounded lifeless.

When I play on weekends, I see 20 year olds who probably play rap in their
cars, but their girlfriends dance to Mustang Sally.
