Did that tube change you gain or just the quality of the tone mostly.
Have you tried Mullard Preamp tubes?
If so how would you compare them to the Teslas?
I'd like to know cuz I'm tweaking one 12000, and finishing up another one.

So looks like I'll be joining you in the 24000 club. Though mine are both clones, with more oirgnal Marshall parts than many Vinatge Amps.

I've tried everything from mazda to phillips and miniwatts. They are mostly relabled mullards. The teslas have a little less gain but much better focus. Check the tubes forum at Plexipalace, there are several threads discussing these tubes extensively!

I use Blackburn plant NOS Mullards in the Preamp spots, so if Tesla are relabled Mullard, I'll like them too.

On your 67, what size cap do you have on your Volume cap.
Is it a .005 uf ?

No the teslas are NOT mullards, they are a clone of the infamous telefunken ecc803s IIRC. Check out the threads over at the palace, you'll get info you need there! I have several blackburn 83s too, but I still like the teslas better for V1!!!

I think I might have a telefunken preamp Tube laying around here. I think it's a 12ax7 or ECC83. I'll have to find it.

What value cap do you have on your 67 Bright Channel Volume Pot?

MK, I'd love for you to try a PPIMV in that amp. We already know how it sounds without one (great), so then we could see how the same amp sounds with one, and whether the amp still sounds the same with the master on 10. Your tech friend could do it cheap.

Sorry, I don't wanna change a thing in that amp, it's finished! I've heard loads of clips from amps with those masters in them and I prefer the non master version every time. The amp gets fizzy (IMO) with a master, it sounds bigger and ballsier without it!

i hear masterkeeper on his amp.

crunchboy - what maybe fizzy to some maybe just the tone one is looking for - high gain to some people = fizzy im findind out - so sometimes - depending on the application - fizzy rules IMHO

i have heard some say my 2203modsu.mp3 is fizzy - heh if thats fizzy then i like fizzy ;) but again thats not ppimv its pre phase inverter master ;)

Yeah but, supposedly, when you turn the master to 10, the sound is excactly the same as if the master was not there at all. This is what Trace from VoodooAmps told me. If this is true, then it wouldn't hurt to have it there. You might really appreciate it's ability to knock off some db's without significantly changing the tone. And if you don't like it, you simply take it out.

You see, that's exactly my problem... I've NEVER heard an amp with that mod that didn't have it's tone changed - and I don't want to change the tone of this amp!!!!!!!!!! In the room it sounds so good it's unreal - so why would I change anything?

If it ain't broken, why fix it?

BTW, If there's one thing I've learnt from the process modding this amp, it is that EVERY change, be it insignificant, small, minor or obscure, IT CHANGES TONE!
