C1998 or 1202-132 for a Van Halen 12-series build?
I query this because I have read that Ed's amp, in VH2-era photos, allegedly show a replaced, 2" OT. Some speculation it could be a 1202-132 from a '67 Superlead? As I'm more into the post VH1 tones, this might be more accurate?

The C1998 is what I associate with the brown sound.
Have you trawled the VH section for gems?

Re: Drake or Dagnall OT for 12-Series?
Had a few searches but most are after the Vh1 sound, which is too Gainy for me. Only real mention of the later OT was from Ralle, who did seem to prefer it in his builds to the C1998. I was quite surprised to find so few people experimenting with the 1202, if it is true that Ed changed the OT after VH1.

It doesn't look like the laminate stack is 2 inches but the end bells look chunky like those found on the Drake 1202-132.
