1 Hbr 1 single wirng posibilities

Post by TONGA » Tue Feb 09, 2016 2:52 pm

Ok it’s a front loaded strat with one hber in the bridge and one single at the neck, no middle pickup. No real use for a tone pot.
A kill …………. Never mind what I am thinking lets here what you think about wiring and controls for the 2 pup setup

I have a strat that is set up with a bridge humbucker and a neck single coil, one volume, one tone (both 500k audio), 0.0022uf tone cap, and a 5-way super switch (the one with 24 poles). The positions are:

#1: bridge humbucker series mode
#2: bridge split + neck in parallel
#3: bridge humbucker + neck in parallel
#4: bridge split
#5: neck

I must say this is probably not the end of all since I don't find #3 that useful.

Cheers Stephan

If you want more exotic wiring schemes, go to www.guitarnuts2.com and look for "hum-sing" wiring. The wiring scheme includes series and out-of-phase combinations, using the same 5-way switch as I did plus one or two push-pull pots.

Are you using a 5 or 3 way switch? I would go with a 3 way and neck, neck/w bridge split and bridge only

I click on the link but it tells me page not found. At first thought I was just going to go with one vol using a push pull pot to switch from one pup to the other. But then I think out of phase, or maybe even a kill switch? You bring up some interesting ideas in your first post but I really don’t want a traditional strat blade switch in the normal place

I am building a guitar with this this same PU arrangement. I will use a 3 position switch.

1. Humbucker in series.
2. Humbucker + Single Coil.
3. Single coil only.

I have a push push pot that I can split the Humbucker with as well. the problem is that the rear, or bridge coil is in play when I use it. How do I wire it so that the other coil is used instead I don't want all that treble bite in single coil mode.

I use a three way switch and two Volume pots. It is very easy to work with it on stage, because you can use a clean/lead preset and just flick the switch.
On the HB pot I had a pull switch for coil splitting, but threw it out, because the SC mode of the HB did not satisfy me.
When no Tone pot is used, you can try a 470K pot for the HB and 100K for the SC, so it does not get too bright.
