Sheilding & Star Grounding for a Rear Routed HM Strat

Post by mightymike » Mon Sep 14, 2015 7:49 pm

I have a little project guitar going. I had an HM Strat body made in Northern Ash. It's a rear routed HSS body like a Dinky.
I just sheilded the pickup routes, the cavity on the back, and the cover.

I was told that if you shield, not to run a bus wire on the backs of the pots because it will cause a gound loop, and to run all the grounds to a central point (star grounding).

What I'm trying to figure out is 1) if I just attach a ground lug somewhere on the sheilded cavity floor, or just leave it hanging. The diagram looks like they are not secured to the sheild through a lug, but the pots are, and they run to the star point as do all the other grounds. 2) Do I need to make a connection from the sheilded back cavity cover to the sheilded rear cavity floor. I could sheild up the side walls of the cavity, and fold over the top flange.
That would make it like a box. It's no problem. I would just need some more copper.

For the middle & neck (singlecoil) cavities, try uising eyelet terminals which would be screwed down in the center soldered from the back of the volume pot which also has a ground lead soldered direct to the input jack's ground.

I am rethinking singlecoil hum cancelling thing with the ilitch system in a few guitars.

I have that Ilitch SSCBP on a couple Strats, and I think they are great. Are you think about doing away with it?
