Re: Chris Holmes/EVH amp ?
WOW! How did get that tone? Where does all that crazy compression and sustain come from?

Re: Chris Holmes/EVH amp ?
That was a lot of nothing ... He got an amp from two guys who just about NEVER use clean sounds, advertises the tone beast, then does a gentle Hendrix bit
... AAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrgh!!

Who knows what the provenance of that amp is anyway? What proof is there that Ed or Chris Holmes used it ever?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1971-Marshall-J ... 7675.l2557

You are bidding on a vintage 1971 100 watt JMP Marshall head I purchased off Chris Holmes of W.A.S.P. fame.Chris was residing in Cincinnati Ohio around 2003,2004 while playing in Randy Pipers Animal.Chris was cash poor and we were able to strike a deal before he went back to California.
Chris told me he got this amp around 1979 fom Eddie Van Halen. He said prior to Van Halen 1 Eddie had a pile of Marshall heads he used in clubs before he decided on his main head he used on all the classic discs.I have tried to better authenticate the Van Halen ownership and Chris was suposed to help me but said the word from Ed was why so I can make money off his name In 2008 I met Eddie and asked him personally to sign a document on this amp.He flat refused to sign anything but but did verbally say he owned Chris money around 1978 and gave Chris a couple Marshalls.
Also I am not aware or the Jose mods other than I was told he worked on it more than once. This is the amp used on hits such as Animal Fuck Like a Beast,I Wanna Be Somebody,Wild Child,Blind in Texas etc. That is was used on every tour he did with the WASP band and I saw Chris play several gigs with Animal and around 2000 with WASP the first time I met Chris. This is a unique piece and am secure with the fact of the history.Chris did not not want to part with it as do I.
I watched Chris part with a couple killer Jacksons that I wish I could have bought.I am not a close friend of Chris' he was just a guy I met and did some work for and was a super close aquantaince at the time that I met through a close friend. The day Chris and I did the transaction he signed and dated a document that comes with the amp.The pic included in this ad was taken at Sneaky Petes bar in Milford Ohio the day after the purchase.Chris needed to borrow it.lol
The amp sounds great and is a tone monster. It has a bias select switch to switch between EL34s which is what is in it or 6650s.If you max all the knobs on ten it sounds like VH1 and is an amazing sounding amp and cool piece to own.It is also very loud as well.It could honestly use a go over by a amp tech as it has been sitting not used much since I purchased it in 2004.It also could use some new tubes and is a little noisy.I have a box and corners from another amp i own and is ready to ship now.I hate to see it go.If I had of known I would be selling it one day I would have had Chris take some pics with it but in 2004 I did not have a computer, cell phone or digital camera.
My name is John and my cell phone number is 513 675 1372 if anyone is a serious buyer and wants any info.If you hit buy it now the amp should be shipped the very next day once payment has been received. All sales are final. Thanks for looking and appreciate your time.
John
Shipping charges vary by location they are not free. For some reason I could not charge a flat rate in my listing and also offer international shipping. If you are in the same postal grid as myself I would guess it would be around $60 ,if you are on the west coast around $75 and if outside the US it will be around $100 to $150 Once again thanks for looking

Re: Chris Holmes/EVH amp ?
even at that volume, you can hear 'IT'
probably sounds like this:

Bands like KEEL, KIX etc of that era all had that same sound. Sweet aggressive plexi.
That OT looks like a replacement? a bit too shiny to be stock given the state of the rest of the amp which looks quite beat
Notice the power tube switch. 6550 to El34 toggle. can guess why ed owed him some $
