Im not sure if you can bias those. The tape heads look like they do not move at all. Not sure about what tape they use. Not really a very good sounding unit to begin with.guitar007 wrote:'For you tape experts...slightly off topic...but what do you suppose the tape bias is on those old UNIVOX EC 80 tape cartridges? High, Meduim, Low...Type I, Type II, Type III, Type IV, etc?
Thanks.

Re: Echoplex Tape Reload
There has got to be a way...I'm sure it's resistor somewhere in the circuit. I'm not a tape echo expert.vanhalen5150 wrote:Im not sure if you can bias those. Re: Echoplex Tape Reload
Thanks...I've searched around quite a bit and nowhere on the web (that I can find) mentions what tape bias they were spec'd for. I've re spooled it with low bias way back when. Re: Echoplex Tape Reload
Ideally, you want lubricated tape. Which is going to be older stock. Regular tape will wear heads faster.

Re: Echoplex Tape Reload
Newer tape & film do not have the Lead & Silver content. That probably has an effect on the friction.
Silver was finally (forced) phased out by the film industry only several years back. Same suppliers that manufacture tape...
Want silver now ? Give China a call...

Re: Echoplex Tape Reload
I use Ampex 456 tape for reloading. I am pretty sure some of the guys who offer reloading services use this tape as well.
Not sure if it had Pb or Ag in it.
