My "Gretchen" Rig - Tribute to Ty Tabor - Clips
First clips with my finally completed "Gretchen" rig. This is supposedly the gear Ty Tabor used to record GGTN.

Man, havent heard 'GGTN' in a long time. Those clips brought back fond memories.
I remember Ty not spilling the beans on his 'secret' amp back then. I was under the impression that is was an old '60's Gibson/Epiphone amp ? So it was the L5 series huh ? Sure sounds good .

As far as I know he has always been straight up about using the L5. Same as B.B. King's amp. I've lived in Houston most of my life and saw King's X in Austin and Houston many times going back to '89...even spent alot of time with Doug (no I'm not gay, but he is!) and the L5 was always part of the rig.

'Ol Doug is gay ? Didnt see that back in the day, I guess now it seems obvious. I really liked alot of the vocals on GGTN.

I remember when I first heard of this band Ty Tabor declined to comment on his amp rig/signal chain..

Yeah he has been out for quite a while now...he is a great guy and very kind to fans. I would see him checking out other bands occasionally when I worked at House of Blues Houston and would see him around my neighborhood which was and still is a vibrant gay and artistic community. He embraces alot of different styles of music and he is a fantastic singer and frontman...I've always thought that King's X was one of the finest pop rock bands going in their heyday.Tone Slinger wrote:'Ol Doug is gay ? Doug Pinnick worked with Steve Stevens on his last solo CD "Memory Crash" contributing vocals on a stirring rendition of Day of the Eagle the Robin Trower classic.
Hope he is doing well.

Most King's X fans know that they had to cancel a spring tour because drummer Jerry Gaskill had a heart attack in February (I think). But DUg just posted some tour dates started in a couple of months on facebook

KingsX are one of my favorite bands. I think I saw them first in '89, and the last time was opening for Accept in 2010. Many times in between. I'll have to check out those clips. I was just playing "Far, Far Away" the other day.

I was just able to check that out. Very Nice! Definitely has that sound, and I see you went to some lengths to get it. ...and I picked up the Summerland riffs watching it!

Re: My "Gretchen" Rig - Tribute to Ty Tabor - Clips
Thanks! Yeah, I LOOOOVE Ty's tone, always have. I actually made some improvements lately and it sounds better. The second delay, that I bought recently, has a problem, that's where a LOT of the noise/hum/buzz is coming from. But it's fine when bypassed! So right now I keep it bypassed and I just increased the delay level on the one that works. So I've gone from stereo delay to wet-dry, essentially. The chorus is still stereo. Plus I noticed that I need to move away from the amp, it's noisier when I stand next to it to try to get it in the picture when I'm making clips. I just started using my new HD camcorder, new clips from that soon, sounds better than the digital camera movies.AJW wrote:I was just able to check that out. Very Nice! Oh, I also recapped the L5 this week but it didn't make any difference in the tone. Still not a bad idea I guess, it is a 30 year old amp, so it can't hurt.
