Holy smokes ..the 1300 nails it for my hearing...add some outboard EVH effects, the magic sunset sound reverb and that's it! the end....the 1400 sounds like it's squashing the tone out too much that if you added anything it would sound not as good... The 13 seems to have the perfect balance and like someone else said makes yer style come out more due to the effort required ...that's what it's all about, conveying the message thru your hands and guitar...so the 1300 wins in my books.   Man Ralle you really nailed that tune also ..great playing! :rocker:

I don't know gentlemen. That 1300 has some of that serious VH I extra hair to it. I think it's got to be backed away from the strings though. That's how I found the DSD to be as well. The 1400 however cannot be denied for its tone. Great playing too BTW Ralle.
Cheers to the ears.

Thanx guys...
Well... I've been testing this back and forth, now... several times since I posted these last clips... and here's my two cents:

MM 1300: As long as my 1300 is ok, and do not sound worse than any other 1300, I have to say, that one is out of the question... Why? It's correct that it needs to be away from the strings, allright... but it does lack of these highs that I feel is nessacary for this tone... when backed down, the muddyness goes away, but so does the good highs as well...

MM 1400: This one is, to my ears, the one for Ed's early demo sound... I raised it up closer to the strings, and it came to life in a way I didn't expect; I thought it would become to edgy, to harsh... but all the sweet, nice, high mids emerged... with that nice, fat, still tight, jucy lows... Thanx again, Strat

DSD -78: Probably the best pu ever ( to my ears )... It may not be what Ed used on the demos... this is my own feeling... what fits my playing the best...
Having that said, the 1400 comes right up there besides the DSD ( who knows... give it a couple of weeks, and I'll probably like it better than the DSD )

Sorry to dissapoint all of you who like the 1300 best... I'm gonna go ahead and rule that one out from my set...

The 1400 is the one with most potentional...

Wow, that clip is inspirational.

Glorious tone, and you are getting it recorded so well too.

Man, you've mastered this on so many levels, the playing is spooky dead on, you've made the amp sound insane at whisper volume as I can hear your guitar a little in the background, you've captured the sound so well too - all from your basement hobby studio.

I mean dang, you rule the evh tone!! You should get a track on the new VH album to noodle around on, it sounds so good...

If I ever amass enough cash to visit sweden, I'll be throwing money at you to build me a clone of your setup and ship it back.

Keep it up man, great stuff.

Ralle.....AWESOME as usual  ........ would you mind sharing the type of capacitors you use for the tone stack and mixer? (i.e. manufacturer, voltage rating, xxpF...etc). I can't seem to find a capacitor in the mixer and tone stack that works for me.

GREAT JOB with your sound/amp!!

Oh man... I don't know the brand... I think they're these silver nico or mico or what ever they're called... I think Metro uses the same... I think they came in dark brown or black...
I have one of those 500 pf in the mixer, and one of the same, plus a flat brown 56pf ( ceramic, I think ) in the tone stack... making 556pf...
That 56pf ceramic cap, I had that laying around in one of my drawers from long ago...

We're all talking about the pu's... but I would like to strike a blow for the trannies here... this isn't possible without the trannies... And I think Brian's Drake 2.5k is absoloutly nessacary... and it didn't get worse with the Metro 1203-80 Pt either...
with 450-460v... I don't know if Ed ever had that Pt, but that's the one I used to get that low voltage, wich is allso nessacary... Those trannies are in my amp to stay... that's for sure

Thanx again Brian

May I ask what is your pot value (and is it a Audio or Linear)?
High's can be added and taken away with 250,300 & 500's.
