To give an example of how Gary has 'adapted' his playing style from the songs where a Floyd Rose tremolo was used originally on the songs, here is Military Man, one of my favorite moore melodic solos, the tune written by Phillip Lynott.
This solo the first on the song, was often used by Gary for extended improvisations during the 1987 Wild Frontier tour and the 1989 After The War. The second solo of the song is completely different, the tremolo was an integral part of the frantic pace of that solo, Gary substitutes hammer ons, ect., to substitute.
I think that has been the most remarkable thing about this tour for me is how adaptable Gary has been in using the fixed bridge Les Paul!
To learn this solo, it's deceptively simple on the face of it, yet the little inflections and characteristics which Gary endows all his solos with, are much harder to replicate.
In the end it's all in the hands/fingers, the sign of a true master of his instrument:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHnF-YX0 ... h_response
Here are some earlier versions of the song, this the first one live with Phil Lynott and Gary on his Floyd equipped Hamer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_WpP6SQINE
The first time out in Norway on the current tour:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5weoysNJglA
From the 1989 After The War tour:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6qd0t2hZK0
The 2nd gig in Sweden 2010:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YQg2KJ7Ll0
The previously definitive version from the Stockholm Wild Frontier video, I have bootlegs that feature the extended improvisations on the first solo at a slower tempo, that are very jazz inflected, eventually I will attempt to download to You Tube this stuff I have, it's some what tricky technically the way i transferred VHS to DVD, there is no way to break up the tracks or make a menu, ect...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwGWA_HDCVE
Just some observations from a Gary Moore fan, I am also a player as well and Gary has always been the player I most closely identified with, he always set the bar for being in perfect pitch and his bends and vibrato are always pure heaven to me, that is the rub for a guitarist with me.
Clapton has his signature style vibrato, albeit somewhat watered down since the BB days, long time ago obviously, Peter Green's superb BB King influenced, but in his own unique style and in my later years, Yngwie Malmsteen, don't laugh, Yngwie's vibrato is incredible and he hasn't lost it from the eighties much at all, ect.
I just feel that Gary felt too weird switching back to his eighties guitar setup as it was radically different back then.
That he has slowed the tempo down on all his material recently has really allowed the tastiness of his playing as it has matured, to come out.
I am well aware of every criticism of Gary and his playing as they always fall into very distinct categories and I can start a separate thread if desired, but I feel the Gary Moore aficionados here will read this thread. Thanks for your encouraging words by the way, some times it feels like a lonely existence, being a loyal supporter, but as in any relationship fan to artist, there are ups and downs.
I spent years on the GM forum/Metro forum and anybody else who would listen forum, questioning why Gary choose to use those JCM 2000 DSL amps in the first place, ect.
Plus obviously Gary has been known to be obstinate :o      in the first place, so he does it his way, ect.
I know he truly admires Rory Gallagher as being the last of the great independents, who wouldn't compromise his music one iota and it became a lonely existence for Rory with that musical purity, but his fans loved him all the more for it.
Gary has a lot of that fire and spirit in him and is a completely different individual than Rory was, Rory being very outspoken when needed, but very gentlemanly, where Gary tends to have no time for that approach.
In the final analysis,it is the music and the musicianship that's most important.
For those interested, GM fans, here are scans of Military Man, one from the most excellent Wolf Marshall of the two very different solos and another more generic with the chord changes:

Have a good day everyone, thanks for listening to Gary Moore, it's always a better day for me to do so!

Dave man thanks a million! The links you gave for the Trondheim concert work and the sound is pretty good. I'm at my third listening of Military Man in a row... Gary still rocks, he's amazing! What a wonderful player, he's got everything a guitar player can ever dream of...

THANKS!

Just found the coolest Gary Moore video ever!! A German automobile tv show enlisted him while on tour in Germany, to do a sound check on three high performance cars, with Gary picking as I knew he would the awesome world class Corvette ZO6 505 HP and says it sounds like a flat out Marshall. it clearly is the superior car of the three. For those who say Gary never smiles and is miserable all the time, he seems to be having a lot of fun here.
At the end he has an older looking Marshall head as well as a DR.Z as well.

Not much cop for a family though!

Why oh why did they stage the ugly four-door M3 though? The two-door coupe is a much better looking car. I'd still prefer the wifes 335 though, purely because you don't have to pay for a service anywhere near as often! I'm too tight to go for an all out nutters car these days.

It is real odd to see old grumpy face smiling though, and it's kind of sad that the Jaguar did sooooo badly (as in, sad that it's the best they can produce). He almost looked embarrassed that it was so outclassed.
Bit of a strange car comparison though I have to say.
So I like purple, okay!!!!!!

83.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot!

I have been informed by my Deutsch speaking friends that there was a USA/UK/British amp shoot out as well as the three guitars.
The Larry amp is built in Germany, the Dr.Z the US and the Marshall, China, oops O mean Britian
The same with the cars, some odd choices but great to see Gary whipping around in the ZO6, everyone seems to have a lot of fun in Germany, could it be the beer??
Here is the Larry British Purist amp info:
http://www.larry-amplification.de/index ... e&Itemid=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Some info from the site:

What is a British Purist? Maybe you have already read Larry's bio (if not, read it now), even though you will agree that it was imperative to include 2 of the most desirable amplifiers that affected that last 40 years of rock history – a '67 Marshall Super Lead and a 2203. Is this British? Yes, pretty much! What about the Purist? This amp concentrates on sound – pure and nothing else! Every single component was chosen for only one single reason, to deliver the best possible pure sound. What you will hear once you step out of the standby mode is simply nothing! Playing your guitar there is nothing but sound.
Pure also means that there are no needless switches, pots, etc.

The development of British Purist's circuit took a couple of years and ended in perfection.
Here are the details. The British Purist is a two channel switching amp. Let's start with channel one, it is called CLASSIC. It uses a shared cathode circuitry to get its classic sound. It is impossible to describe how this channel feels, but it takes you days to get rid off this big fat grin in your face. Promised! Most people who played the Classic channel are not interested in the other one. They tried so much, searched so long – congratulations they just arrived - done.

For those who want or need more gain, there is the other channel, Larry named it ROUGH.
The Rough channel continues where the Classic channel ends gainwise. It is possible to dial in the Rough channel having nearly the same sound as the Classic channel and then dose gain to your own taste. Nearly all 2003 users use one or more stompboxes to kick gain. All of those stompboxes are noisy tonesuckers, even the most exclusive boutique pedals. As a logical consequence Larry put a foot-switchable tube driven BOOSTER directly into the British Purist. It will take you directly into gain heaven. But beware this amp preserves its dynamics and mediocre players will not be able to hide behind tons of compression. It reveals the quality of your guitar without mercy.

It is possible to do your job without a FX loop in the studio, on stage it is probably not.
You want to add your effects to your sound without killing it. Having only one target – pure sound – Larry couldn't add a standard loop. So he started to develop his own patented loop.
The first really working none tone sucking loop in a non MV amp. You can pull the loop driver tube – it will not affect the signal, only the FX will drop out. The loop accepts both stompboxes or rack equipment. The send and return level controls operating in a wide sensitivity range.

Now you have some British Purist background – but you have to experience it yourself

A photo gallery of the Larry amp:

Here is the supercharged ZR-1 Vette:

Here is the great Chris Amon in a 1968 Ferrari F1 car flying through the air at the FLugplatz, or Flying place on the old North Loop of the Nurburgring circuit
Truly a thing of beauty, I can almost hear the engine revving up as the car hits the air, the scream of the V-12, with it's bundle of snakes, tunes worl of art in metal exhaust system:

With Gary's passing, I thought it might be good to bump this thread back up, considering all the great links contained within.

Sad day :(

I can still remember the first time I heard Shapes of Things in 1984, as a 15 year old guitar novice I was completely blown away. In that same year I was fortunate enough to see him live when he opened the Texxas Jam. He had about a 30-45 minute set where he just blew the doors off the place. What a talent....
